Archipelago has been around for over 40 years and is at the forefront of monitoring solutions for fisheries around the world.

We create and deploy technology for commercial fishing vessels, at-sea observers and dockside monitors to collect data and report back to our clients.

This data helps manage global fisheries and ensure sustainability for generations to come. Our head office sits right on the water in Victoria (Esquimalt), British Columbia and we have offices in Alaska, Oregon,

Australia, Norway and in Port Hardy, Prince Rupert, and Ucluelet, British Columbia.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

  • Provide management, leadership and direction to staff including Port Supervisors in our coastal British Columbia locations.
  • Coordinate operational logistics for team members travelling to other locations.
  • Communicate with members of the Fisheries Monitoring Program (FMP), Monitoring Technologies (MT), management, finance and human resources teams as needed.
  • Liaise with and provide customer service to clients including fishing industry members and government staff.
  • Oversee and proactively support staff planning, scheduling, and coordination, as well as recruitment and hiring.
  • Travel to our offices in coastal British Columbia to provide support for staff and supervisors and perform field work.
  • Update training and reference materials and produce memos for staff.
  • Monitor and manage budget, quarterly and annual goals, and other key performance indicators.
  • Provide basic IT support for staff, contractors, and clients.
  • Oversee and coordinate biological sampling programs conducted in ports.

WHAT DO YOU OFFER?

  • Capable of climbing ladders up to 25 feet to board fishing vessels.
  • Innovative with the confidence to bring new ideas to the table, as well as the ability to follow procedures.
  • Able to accept frequent changes and learn quickly.
  • Selfmotivated to meet strict deadlines and selfpaced goals, with an ability to prioritize and organize your workload in an effective manner, while working within broad guidelines independently.
  • Willingness and ability to carry an afterhours emergency cell phone, travel and work in remote field locations, work irregular and unpredictable schedules, and in adverse weather conditions.
  • Bonus points for experience with sampling or monitoring techniques and scientific methodology.
  • Must have a valid BC Driver License with a reliable vehicle.

WHAT ELSE?


The position is based on a 37.5-hour average work week - usually Monday to Friday, with 3 weeks paid vacation.

Archipelago is focused on getting the job done and not watching the clock, but we use these figures as our guidelines for our team members.

We follow guidelines and mandatory public health orders and pro-actively manage PPE's, processes and protocols in all our offices and field work locations.
