Job Duties Job Duties 1. Individual student meetings

  • Coach and provide feedback and evaluation to students on career, and employment topics, as well as education for employment purposes.
  • Assist students in planning and implementing an effective job search strategy, including volunteering and networking in person and online.
  • Assist students to develop strategies for overcoming employment barriers by identifying industry standards and transferable skills.
  • Assist students to develop resumes, cover letters, and practice interview skills face to face or online.
  • Workshops in LINC Classrooms
  • Advertise Career Strategist services to students on a regular basis.
  • Develop and provide workshops on pre-employment skills, including career assessment, job search, resume and cover letter writing, and interview skills; job retention; workplace culture; and workplace communication.
  • Show students how to conduct job searches on provincial and national databases. Introduce students to NOC.
  • Develop external partnerships with employers to provide workshops for LINC students and facilitate scheduling of employment or education related presentations.
  • Community outreach
  • Conduct local labour market research to assist students who want to transition back into their career or to help them develop a career plan and identify transferable skills in preparation for applying for jobs.
  • Communicate and collaborate with internal and external partners to share information on employment workshops and information sessions with instructors and students.
  • Student referrals to external services
  • Refer students to services outside of LINC for employment and education opportunities or training.
  • Inform students of professional certification organizations and educational credential services.
  • Gathering information
  • Maintain records of workshops and individual student meetings.
  • Identify resources and learning tools appropriate to support curriculum/course implementation for employment or education related topics.
  • Reporting successes
  • Communicate and report on student achievement and progress to program head.
  • Complete monthly activity report.
  • Instructor duties
  • Must complete CLB Boot Camp within one month of hire if not PBLA trained.
  • Plan and deliver learning activities that reflect the values, beliefs, needs and contributions of a culturally diverse community. Accommodate unique needs of diverse learners and seek program support to best accommodate these students.
  • Be flexible and responsive to learner needs using appropriate instructional methodologies for adults.
  • Practice effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Pursue professional development opportunities to keep current on employment and educational issues.
  • Work co-operatively in an interdependent team environment.
  • Follow regulations and policies adopted by Saskatchewan Polytechnic, School of Human Services and Community Safety, and IRCC.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE Specific Accountabilities Duties Required Qualifications, Skills and Abilities (QSA) 1. Diploma or Degree in related field (i.e. Career development, Employment Counselling, Education, TESOL, Workplace Training, Human Resources), or an equivalent combination of education and experience.2. Two years recent and relevant experience working with adults in employment preparation programs.3. Experience in the use of career and skills assessment tools.

Demonstrated competence and recent experience in the use of the internet, email, MS Office Suite software and ability to learn and adapt to changing technology.

Able to use Zoom and/or BigBlueButton proficiently for videoconferencing with staff and students.4. Experience and training in group facilitation and teaching both face to face and online.5. Able to track student progress and participation time in a face-to-face and/or online learning environment.6. Able to facilitate appropriate conversations with and motivate newcomer students.7. Able to establish a flexible schedule to meet student learning needs and schedules.8.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively with learners and colleagues from diverse backgrounds, including indigenous peoples, newcomers to Canada, and people with disabilities.9.

Demonstrated knowledge and involvement with local labour market including business, government and community based organizations.
