Are you a policy professional looking to contribute to the sustainable management of Ontario's forests?
As a Senior Policy Advisor you will lead/participate on multi-disciplinary policy teams, conduct policy research and analysis and provide advice in support of the development and implementation of forest policies and programs with a focus on policies guiding verification of Sustainable Forest Management, including Independent Forest Audits and compliance.

What can I expect to do in this role?In this role, you will:
• provide leadership, coordination, project management and policy advice for evaluating performance in achieving sustainable forest management for the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry;
• ensure the evaluation of and improvements to Independent Forest Audit policy and strategic compliance policy;
• maintain a watching brief of developments in forest certification systems standards and implications to provincial policy;
• provide professional forestry policy expertise, advice and recommendations to ministry senior management and executives.
How do I qualify?Technical expertise:
• knowledge of policy development processes and an understanding of issues related to forestry, economics and business administration
•you can lead the development of provincial policies and programs with your understanding of government decision making processes
•you can assess all aspects and options on policy proposals
•knowledge of ministry policies and programs in economic development and forestry
•knowledge of risk assessment and risk management principles to make recommendations on issues
You can evaluate environmental and economic feasibility and impact of options
Communication and interpersonal skills:
• negotiation, facilitation, diplomacy, consensus building and communication skills to lead consultations, represent the ministry on committees, negotiate arrangements and provide authoritative advice, expertise and briefings to branch/division management
• presentation skills to relay legislation/policy positions and recommendations, and promote policy/strategic initiatives
• ability to prepare complex analyses, detailed strategies, legislation/policy recommendations, policy submissions, presentation materials, briefing documents, and executive correspondence
Analytical and problem-solving skills:
• conceptual, analytical, and problem-solving skills to identify and anticipate complex, inter-related and large scale policy issues
•you can determine and implement the most effective and efficient long and short-term policy options
Computer skills:
•you can use word processing, spreadsheet and database software programs to prepare submissions, briefing notes, presentations
