Position Title: Training Facilitator, Workforce Training and Development

Location: Kitchener, ON or any VLRC office in Canada

Term: Full-time, Permanent

Reports To: Senior Executive Lead, Training and Operations

Date: June 13, 2024

I. Scope and Summary of Primary Responsibilities

This position will be governed by the principles outlined in the Workforce Training and Development policy.

This national position is an integral member and resource of the workforce training and development team. The Training Facilitator, Workforce Training and Development is responsible for the planning, monitoring and execution of the VLRC Apprenticeship Program and Professional Practice Development Program.

In collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, Rehabilitation Management, Professional Practice Leads and Subject Matter Expert Committees the Training Facilitator, Workforce Training and Development provides guidance to all new staff as well as current staff working within the Apprenticeship Program. This position is the primary contact for Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation & Education Professionals certificates, Continuous Education Opportunities and maintaining the Registered Provider of Professional Learning and Education as a provider.

The Training Facilitator, Workforce Training and Development is responsible for developing courses, updating, training staff, and monitoring the training platform.

II. Essential Functions

The position entails, but is not limited to the following general responsibilities:


•Onboard staff into the Apprenticeship or Professional Practice Development and provide the reference guide for the appropriate opportunity.


•Maintains and reviews information with the Apprentice/ learner and Manager throughout the life of the program.


•Consults with the Manager, Apprentice/Learner and discipline specific Professional Practice Lead to ensure successful registration to the program of study.


•Monitors all registration fees and payments to each learning institution following VLRC financial accounting procedures.


•Supply statistical reporting on the staff's completion of the Apprenticeship and Professional Practice Development.


•Manage lists of identified staff as approved by Managers for each of the components of the programs.


•Creates course content through collaboration with various subject matter experts to support staff learning.


•Reviews course feedback, quizzes, or evaluation methods to gauge participants progress and to make improvements to our training programs.


•Compiles reports with recommendations for improvements for leadership consideration.


•Manages training resources, including materials, equipment, and technology, to ensure smooth and efficient delivery of training sessions.


•Trains staff on new initiatives within Vision Loss Rehabilitation Canada.


•Ensures training content is delivered in an accessible, clear, and understandable manner, catering to the diverse learning styles and preferences of participants.


•Maintains external student placement requests, and managers training requests to ensure proper tracking of training opportunities for all staff.


•Perform other duties as assigned.

Relationships


•Communicates effectively with PPLs, Subject Matter Expert Committees, Apprentices, and VLR staff as learners, mentors, and coaches.


•Provide input to management of related activities and progress; seeks support and approvals as required.


•Fosters positive relationships with participants, external partners and training providers to create a supportive and collaborative learning community that encourages knowledge sharing and ongoing development.

•Highlights opportunities, identifies potential challenges, and provides practical solutions.


•Continuously identifies and assesses training needs; providing recommendations for new training opportunities for Executive Leadership approval.

Decision Autonomy


•Makes sound routine decisions following VLRC policies and procedures.


•Regular consultations with Senior Executive Lead, Training and Operations, and Senior Manager, Clinical Practice and Standards, and People and Culture Team.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements


•Excellent communication and interpersonal skills


•Effective time management and organizational skills


•Ability to manage multiple priorities and scheduling demands.


•Knowledge and experience in developing, delivery and evaluation of training.

Experience and Education


•Post-secondary degree or diploma in a related field or equivalent experience.


•Experience in training and development; certification in one or both is an asset.


•Proficiency in Learning Management System (LMS)


•Experience in accessibility, equity, and diversity.

Work Environment


•Willingness to work flexible hours.


•Able to use various virtual platforms to conduct training, meetings, and communication with all levels of VLR staff.


•Moderate travel required.
