POSITION SUMMARY:Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Director of Human Resources will work collaboratively with the senior leadership team to ensure best in class HR practices are maintained and implemented across the agency. The role is primarily responsible providing strategic leadership to the members of the HR team in the areas of recruitment, training and development, health & safety, labour relations, and ensuring that compliance with relevant regulations, policies and collective agreements is being upheld.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Monitor and ensure on-going progression of FACS Niagara health and safety culture and safe work practices in collaboration with the Health, Safety and Wellness Coordinator.
  • Oversees the recruitment and selection process ensuring effective equitable procedures for acquisition and retention of qualified candidates in collaboration with the HR Services Lead.
  • Develops, implements and manages effective procedures for employee training and development in collaboration with the Training and Development Lead.
  • Provide sound and expert advice to leaders on operational people matters, risks, issues, and trends to keep managers informed and supported including coaching managers in labour relations, employee engagement, and workforce planning issues.
  • Develop, improve, revise, administer and innovate where possible, HR policies, procedures, healthy and safety strategic priorities and plans into all business functions by ensuring continuous improvement processes to ensure sustainability.
  • Manage complex workplace people issues including grievances, performance improvement, conduct and other investigations, disciplinary matters to support a harmonious and productive working environment.
  • Ensure alignment with HR polices, programs and processes in collaboration with the Senior Managemer of Equity, Diversity and Honouring Identity.
  • Provides expertise, support, and advice to all organizational levels on matters related to the Collective Agreement interpretation, labour legislation and labour relations practices.
  • Fosters leadership development among management and professional staff to ensure succession planning for key positions.
  • Inspire, engage, coach and mentor a team of highly skilled HR professionals fostering an environment of trust, collaboration and high-performance.
EXPEREINCE AND EDUCATION:
  • University Degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, or other similar field of study.
  • CHRP/CHRL preferred.
  • Minimum 9 years experience in a senior HR role which has included labour relations preferably in a high-profile not-for-profit organization.
  • Extensive experience in Human Resources managing labour relations, health and safety, talent acquisition and employee services.

  • Ability to architect strategy to create short and mid-term strategic plans.
  • Demonstrates resiliency and critical thinking skills to navigate areas of uncertainty to help make informed decisions.
  • Excellent mentoring, coaching and communication skills to provide instructions and guidance to staff with respect to activities, challenges and questions.
KNOWLEDGE:
  • Advanced knowledge of Ontario employment law including the Employment Standards Act, Ontario Human Rights Code, Accessibility of Ontarians with Disabilities Act.
  • Advanced knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety requirements as it relates to individual, organizational and operational requirements.
