About Arts Umbrella
Arts Umbrella is where young artists ages 2–22 foster their creativity in Art, Design, Dance, Theatre, Music, and Film. As a non-profit organization for arts education, we strongly believe that art has the power to transform a child's life remarkably. When young individuals engage with the arts, they develop self-confidence, self-discipline, and explore creative expression—attributes they carry with them for a lifetime. Arts Umbrella has three locations in Vancouver and Surrey, along with donor-supported initiatives at schools, community centers, neighborhood houses, and healthcare facilities throughout Metro Vancouver, serving nearly 20,000 young individuals annually, with 77% participating in donor-funded programs.
In April 2021, Arts Umbrella relocated to a new facility on Granville Island. The Opportunity
Reporting to Artistic Director, Dance the Operations Manager plays a vital role in supporting the strategic planning and operational requirements of the Dance Department and the Arts Umbrella Dance Company.
In this role you will:
- Work closely with the Artistic Director and Production Manager to ensure the efficient planning and execution of performances, rehearsals, and artistic endeavors
- Cooperate with the financial team and Artistic Director to oversee and manage the department's budget, expenses, and financial performance
- Aid in developing and executing marketing and promotional strategies to enhance the visibility and impact of department programs
- Collaborate with the HR department on recruitment and hiring for administrative, faculty, and musician positions
- Create and implement operational strategies to enhance efficiency, cut costs, and boost productivity within the Dance department
- Handle and resolve any operational challenges that arise, guaranteeing minimal disruption to departmental activities
- Provide assistance to the administrative team, teaching faculty, and musicians to ensure a positive and productive work environment
- Supervise the dance department administrative team in executing various projects and timelines aligned with departmental objectives
- Participate in the administration and coordination of special projects as necessary
- Carry out related duties in line with the role's purpose and responsibilities
Here is what you bring:
The qualifications for this role are typically acquired through the completion of a post-secondary degree, three to five years of professional experience, and a thorough understanding of the discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Bachelor's degree in Arts Management, Dance, Business, or a related field
- Solid comprehension of dance production processes, scheduling, and event coordination
- Proficiency in using pertinent software and tools for budgeting, scheduling, and project management
- Capability to adapt to a dynamic and fast-paced setting, managing numerous priorities with finesse and efficiency
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills to facilitate effective collaboration with team members and stakeholders
- Proactive and resourceful in finding solutions to obstacles
- Keen attention to detail to ensure precision in paperwork, logistics, and production-related duties
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as necessitated by departmental requirements
