Toronto, Ontario, Canada KPMG Full time
Overview
At KPMG, you'll join a team of diverse and dedicated problem solvers, connected by a common cause: turning insight into opportunity for clients and communities around the world.

Are you a talented leader with a proven track record for motivating teams and delivering exceptional client service?

Our Management Consulting team is looking for a professional like you with the skills and drive to make a real difference.

KPMG's Justice & Security practice provide guidance and experience to public safety, security, and justice organizations to stay at the forefront of risks and challenges influencing the future of public safety and security by driving the initiatives that will shape tomorrow. The practice uses tailored methodologies, grounded in real industry experience, to modernize and optimize Canada's police, courts, corrections, national security agencies and transportation hubs as they strive to integrate and evolve parallel to operating within increasingly smart cities and communities.

KPMG's Government Practice helps government (e.g., federal, provincial and municipal) and broader public sector clients (e.g., higher education institutions) develop efficient and effective operations to support strategic business objectives. We help government anticipate disruption and reimagine the possible. Our shared purpose and passion help make an impact and improve the lives of citizens.

We are seeking a Toronto-based Director to join our Government Practice to lead our Justice & Security cluster. This would be a strategic, high-profile role that unites our Justice & Security and Government national practices together to create a coordinated strategy.

Target clients for this cluster include:
  • Municipalities

What you will do
As a Director at KPMG, you will bring prior consulting experience with government and broader sector organizations. Furthermore, you understand and are intimately familiar with Canadian governments at the federal, provincial and municipal level as it relates to this cluster. This experience and exposure span the strategy and operations of government, including program/policy development, implementation and evaluation, as well as the downstream entities involved (e.g., courts, police services) and/or stakeholders impacted (e.g., police, prosecutors, judges).

This role is about sales, delivery, and practice development.
  • Business development: you will support the identification, marketing and support of winning the trust of clients resulting in sold work;
  • Team and project management: you will lead a team of high performers, maintain strong client relations and shape the deliverable of outstanding work products;
  • Practice development: you will create followership and can support recruiting, marketing and practice administration as required.
You will play a central role in delivering a structured process to shape an ambitious and practical path for clients to realize value. You will also be part of a national and global KPMG that has developed some of the best tools, methods, and frameworks anywhere.

What you bring to the role

  • Should be able to operate effectively, be a self-starter / adaptive and mature the practice amid ambiguity, changing market conditions and rapid change.
Justice & Security Specific Experience:
  • Experience working with police boards, federal, provincial and municipal police services and governments to identify opportunities that maximize resources through intelligence-led systems, increasing financial return across all forms of service delivery, and employing new, innovative, design-led technological approaches to protect public safety.
  • Sound knowledge of the Acts, Regulations, Rules, regulatory frameworks and standards, and relevant policy and procedures and ability to interpret and apply to justice & security transformation considerations and initiatives.
  • Experience with Strategy, Planning, Analytics and Performance, including operational and strategic plan reporting, management information services, modelling, research, and analysis.
  • Experience in creating business cases / proposals for structural change, technology improvements and business process re-engineering, including new ways of undertaking existing functions.
Technical Skills / Experience
  • Comfortable working at both the conceptual and the hands-on level with big picture thinking and growth-oriented leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated experience working with data, inferring insights from data and briefing senior leaders on insights and recommendations

  • Excellent skills and experience in project execution, including leading day-to-day delivery, team management, client relationship management, and managing project schedule, risks, and timelines.
  • University degree in law related studies, social justice, education, or other related sector
Leadership, Relationship Building and Communication Skills:
  • Ability to cultivate relationships at management and executive levels, both internally and externally, including to drive business development initiatives
  • Ability to succeed in both team-based and independent environments
