MLTC was created by nine First Nations located in north-west Saskatchewan who have constitutionally recognized aboriginal rights and Treaty Rights under Treaties #6, #8 and #10. The primary purpose of MLTC is to serve those First Nations in their aspirations for cultural, economic and political autonomy. As a private sector employer engaged primarily in promoting and serving the interests of the member First Nations, MLTC asserts its right to provide preferential treatment to First Nations people, giving them priority in decisions on employment matters such as hiring, and this can extend to measures such as opening competitions only to First Nations people.

This competition is open to all applicants; and Preference will be given to qualified First Nations applicants or other Indigenous applicants who self-declare as being a First Nations person or of other Indigenous ancestry;

The Meadow Lake Tribal Council is now accepting applications for a highly motivated individuals to fill (1) full time, term position of Youth & Elder Support (YES) Workers. Term may be extended based on funding and program needs.

The Youth & Elder Support (YES) Worker will support the Meadow Lake First Nations to strengthen the use of cultural and traditional approaches to improve mental health and wellness supports for children and youth years old, Elders and their families.

The Youth & Elder Support (YES) Worker, will strengthen community cultural mental health support and build capacity by working with First Nations Elders Community Wellness Counselors, Jordan's Principal Therapists, Mental Health Therapists and other identified support within the communities.

DUTIES (include but not limited to):

Provide culturally responsive and safe care and strive to build culturally competent programs and services in the area of mental health and wellness. Facilitate youth capacity development by drawing on Elders teachings, knowledge, strengths, and skills. Ensure data collection, meet reporting requirements, and document knowledge transfer sessions. Support the (8) Meadow Lake First Nations (MLFN) on successful practices that improve mental health with a focus on culturally based programming. Be an active member on MLTC Crisis Team(s) and MLTC Accreditation Teams. Respect the cultural practices of each client and community. Provide a monthly report of activities to the Community Wellness Director and perform other related duties as requested. Support two MLFN communities each to support and facilitate services to strengthen children age 0- 18, in various capacities; inclusive of counselling, cultural teaching, land based cultural activities, land-based healing events, ceremony, craft, and cultural development

QUALIFICATIONS/ SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Minimum:

Grade 12 Experience working with youth and/or elders. Relevant combination of education and experience may be considered

Preferred:

Post-Secondary Diploma and/or Degree in Social Work; Youth Care Worker Diploma, or other relevant education and experience. Two (2) or more years of experience working with youth and/or elders.

Other:

Be familiar with and understand First Nation barriers/issues/culture. First Nation language, culture and traditional practices obtained through years of traditional apprentice Must be addiction free, sober, and intent on living a healthy balanced lifestyle. First Nation land-based knowledge Knowledge and understanding of MLTC and First Nation history, cultures, and values; ability to speak Cree and/or Dene will be considered an asset. Able to consistently demonstrate professionalism with a strong work ethic while maintaining confidentiality and following all MLTC policies and procedures. Ability to work effectively under pressure in a team environment with staff, other MLTC departments, and the nine (9) First Nation communities as well as independently with minimal supervision. Willingness to travel extensively, sometimes with last minute notification, and possession of a valid driver's license. Excellent organizational skills, interpersonal skills, and communication skills Demonstrated knowledge in office procedures; ability to maintain accurate records/files and documentation; excellent communication, organization and planning skills.
