The primary purpose of MLTC is to serve those First Nations in their aspirations for cultural, economic and political autonomy. As a private sector employer engaged primarily in promoting and serving the interests of the member First Nations, MLTC asserts its right to provide preferential treatment to First Nations people, giving them priority in decisions on employment matters such as hiring, and this can extend to measures such as opening competitions only to First Nations people.

This competition is open to all applicants; and Preference will be given to qualified First Nations applicants or other Indigenous applicants who self-declare as being a First Nations person or of other Indigenous ancestry;

The MLTC Health & Social Development Department is seeking a dynamic, highly motivated individual to fill the full-time, permanent position of Community Counselling Support Worker (CCSW). The CCSW provides advice, support, case management capacity and development in the areas of mental health services and is the Head Crisis Response Coordinator.

Duties include but are not limited to:

Provides an integrated community crisis response and critical incident stress management service. To provide support to individuals, family and community well-being by providing a holistic family systems framework of practice that honors and respects Cree and Dene traditions, culture, language and history. Individual, family and group counselling and support to the five southern MLFN’s community members dealing with significant emotional or mental health issues such as grief and loss, sexual abuse, suicidal ideation, unresolved trauma or other issues. To promote positive mental health of community members though information sharing, knowledge enhancement, community development and prevention activities. To provide counselling and support to individuals and communities in the aftermath of community crisis, stress or trauma. To support the development of the five southern MLFN’s capacity for self-help and group solutions to common concerns and issues and to support self-empowerment for individuals and communities. Providing support to and/or arranging access to professional development and training opportunities of the MLFN Wellness Workers.

Qualifications:

Minimum:

Certificate or Diploma in Human Services, Social Work, Comm. Health & Wellness. Possess experience in human services, community development, counseling, and facilitation.

Preferred:

Bachelor Degree in Social Work, Mental Health & Wellness, Psychology, or related discipline Experience in First Nations Health Services Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in counselling Registered or eligible for registration with the appropriate professional association. Possesses or eligible for Professional Liability Insurance.

Other:

Intermediate to advanced computer skills and experience with computer applications, i.e., EMR, Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access & Outlook. Excellent written & verbal communication and presentation skills. Excellent interpersonal, time-management, and organizational skills. Work within a team setting and independently; working with minimal supervision. Demonstrating initiative and adaptability; prioritizing multiple demands. Ability to travel extensively, sometimes with short notice, and possession of a valid driver’s license. Preference will be given to individuals who speak either Cree or Dene.
