MLTC was created by nine First Nations located in north-west Saskatchewan who have constitutionally recognized aboriginal rights and Treaty Rights under Treaties #6, #8 and #10. The primary purpose of MLTC is to serve those First Nations in their aspirations for cultural, economic and political autonomy. As a private sector employer engaged primarily in promoting and serving the interests of the member First Nations, MLTC asserts its right to provide preferential treatment to First Nations people, giving them priority in decisions on employment matters such as hiring, and this can extend to measures such as opening competitions only to First Nations people.
This competition is open to all applicants; and Preference will be given to qualified First Nations applicants or other Indigenous applicants who self-declare as being a First Nations person or of other Indigenous ancestry.The Meadow Lake Tribal Council is seeking a highly motivated individual to fill a full-time, term position of the Post-Sentence Support Coordinator. The Post-Sentence Support Coordinator will provide the provision of supports at the post sentence stage and will case manage individuals to assist in the successful completion of their recommendations/healing plans included in their post sentence/Gladue reports and in meeting the terms of their sentence.
This position will provide a critical connection between the justice system and the supports required to complete the recommendations from the post sentence or Gladue Report.
Duties (include but not limited to)
Create awareness about the new service to RCMP, Crown Prosecutors, Lawyers, Judges, Gladue Writers, Court Workers, etc. Identify & make referrals to supports: Mental Health, Therapy/Counselling, Sentencing Circles, Healing Circles, Additions Treatment & Intervention, Elders, Spiritual Advisors, Land-Based & Cultural Training, Training & Employment, Housing, etc. Establish effective networks and working links with other key stakeholders, including families and communities, government agencies and the private sector in service and program provision for individuals in the post stage of sentencing. Support clients and their families with any healing supports regarding circumstances where the post sentence Gladue Report brings up past trauma. Assist the individual to reintegrate into the community. Assist the Justice team in developing customized programming, workshops, conferences, etc. Quarterly activity and reports to Program, funders and First Nations.Required Qualifications & Skills:
Minimum:
Combination of relevant education and experience may be considered. Training and mentorship will be available.Preferred:
Certificate, Diploma or Degree from an accredited Justice related program. 1-3 years related experience.Other:
Have excellent organizational, decision making and professional judgement Excellent communication (written/verbal), interviewing, and presentation Intermediate to advanced computer Ability to speak the Cree/Dene language is a definite Knowledge of, and sensitivity towards First Nations cultures is also an Possession of a valid driver's license and able to travel-
