About us:

YSB offers a variety of Peer Support opportunities within its Community Services program.

In promoting youth engagement, Peer Support Workers help facilitate YSB's Peer to Peer service groups as well as participate in other initiatives that focus on advocating and program creation for youth living in Ottawa.


The Peer Support Worker will work closely with the YSB staff ally to coordinate and facilitate the Ethno-Cultural Youth Action Committee (EYAC) program.

This is a youth led position working in partnership with the EYAC team to support youth who are homeless or at risk of homelessness and who identify on the LGBTQ2S+ spectrum.

The peer supporters will participate in program planning, direct service delivery, and evaluation.

Key Position Responsibilities

  • Alongside staff allies, the Peer Supporter will support youth who are homeless or at risk of homelessness and who identify on the LGBTQ2S+ spectrum
  • Facilitate groups to promote community development and integration (e

g:
tenant advisories, resident meetings, etc.)

  • Work with youth advisories to integrate youth voice across programs and services
  • Perform work in accordance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and all YSB policies and procedures

  • Experience as n engaged young person (e.g., experience with youthled organizing and/or youth engagement activities in a mental health/addictions/housing and/or demonstrated leadership in community initiatives)
  • Knowledge of youth engagement principles and practices
  • Experience facilitating groups
