About the role:

Under direction of the Residential Coordinator, Windrose Supportive Housing is designed to support young women (cis-gender, non-binary, and transgender) who are at-risk of or have experienced homelessness, domestic violence, or justice system involvement.

Young women entering this program will be working on personal goals and will require a longer term safe and affordable housing opportunity with on-site supports around building life skills, mental health, substance use, crisis management, and peer relationships.

Living at Windrose will provide them the opportunity to continue their ongoing work, to become positive contributors to their community, and lead a healthy lifestyle
.



Preferred Experience:

  • University degree/College Diploma in the Social Sciences OR working towards competition of one
  • Experience deescalating crisis and supporting folks with mental health challenges
  • Experience in a residential setting and/or community development
  • Experience working with youth within a strengthbased framework
  • Have a recent Criminal Record Check (within the last six months)
  • Have a desire to support youth in their transition to adulthood through an antioppressive, antiracist, and feminist lens in an empathetic and caring manner
  • Have an understanding of youth mental health and development
  • Have an ability to effectively deal with neighbour or community complaints after hours if required
  • Be interested and passionate about working within a supportive community that includes residents and the Windrose staff team
  • Have excellent people skills to facilitate relationships with clients, colleagues, supervisors, and community members
  • Possess strong time management and organizational skills
  • Be highly creative to support interactive and engaging programming for the residents
  • Can be thorough in building maintenance, upkeeping, and cleaning duties as required
  • Willing to work weekends and holidays
  • Have flexibility and availability to pick up extra shifts as required

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Competency engaging and establishing rapport with youth experiencing mental health and substance use issues.
  • Competency using crisis management skills
  • Basic counselling skills to support case plans with residents as directed by Coordinator
  • Clear understanding of operating within agency policies and procedures
  • Strong organizational skills to support the team with accomplishing various tasks set out in JHS/Windrose work plan
  • Competency in report writing, fathering and interpreting data and outcome measures, as required by the Coordinator
