This position leads and manages a diverse team of staff from departments identified as core to the recruitment and admissions stages in an overall enrolment management process.

They will be responsible and accountable for policy input, marketing strategies, personnel and process management, and strategic plan execution, for recruitment and admission of domestic and international undergraduate students, with a shared responsibility for transition and retention.


Responsibilities:

Student Recruitment Policy and Planning

  • Works to further and develop recruitment aims, provides input to overall University strategy for student recruitment, policy options, strategies, and briefings regarding future directions and current practices.
  • Responsible for developing overall and specific strategic plans for Recruitment and Admissions, participates in strategic planning for Student Services.
  • Advises and works with various sectors of the University and keeps abreast of their customized, individual recruitment strategies.
  • Responsible for assessing and providing briefings on national and international academic standards, language requirements and emerging trends in national and international recruitment and education.
  • Integral to the development and maintenance of the University's Strategic Enrolment Management (SEM) Plan. Works with stakeholders to determine enrolment targets, to and identify and implement strategies and tactics to achieve the targets for a range of student groups.
  • Investigates, identifies, and develops specific and targeted marketing strategies for countries and regions, and is responsible for the design of international recruitment efforts and partnership strategies.
  • Undertakes recruitment travel and representation of the University and ensures the efforts of the Student Recruitment Office in the same, locally, nationally, and internationally.
  • Responsible for the development of annual marketing plans, including budget and resource requirements for approval by the Provost and Registrar.
  • Lead administrator for the University's International agent relationships and the initiation, maintenance, and termination of agent agreements.
  • Represents the Student Recruitment Office on external and internal committees.

Registrarial Administration

  • Provides leadership, planning, budgeting and program development, strategic priorities, decisionmaking, training, and ongoing performance development for the areas within the portfolio.
  • Collaborates to align the recruitment of Indigenous, Immigrant, and Refugee students with the activities of the Recruitment Office.
  • Initiates process and policy review and documentation of standard operating procedures, recommending improvements or enhancements.
  • Responsible for undergraduate admissions, ensuring processes and services support meeting optimal recruitment targets, data analysis, and reporting.
  • Leads ad hoc English Language Policy group to coordinate the review, acceptance, and removal of measures and standards for English Language Proficiency
  • Oversees the activities of the Coordinator of PLAR and Adult Learner Services in motivating and encouraging adult learners to commence or continue with their education at the University level.
  • Works with Admissions and the Coordinator of Adult Learners and PLAR to ensure creative but rigorous practices and processes of assessment and recognition of prior learning.
  • Consults on decisions on deposit refund requests from International applicants/students.
  • Coordinates and administers projects, including research.

Institutional Relations

  • Oversees the activities of the Manager, International Recruitment and Institutional Relations in initiating and responding to requests internally at UWinnipeg and from other educational institutions to establish and maintain formal articulation agreements.
  • Travels to various countries and within Canada to represent The University of Winnipeg, and oversees the travel of staff.
  • Acts as a primary contact to negotiate student exchange agreements with national and international universities.
  • Provides strategic leadership and confidential negotiations on national and international contractual arrangements with individuals, government and nongovernmental bodies.
  • Represents the University in strategic bargaining on national and international student contract bids, proposals and exchanges.
  • Establishes and maintains contact with external government and nongovernmental agencies, boards and recruitment committees.

  • Undergraduate degree, graduate level training preferred.
