CBC is currently seeking a Producer to work at CBC Arts, the home of Canadian creative culture.

Reporting to CBC Arts' Senior Producer, you will be a key member of the editorial team producing and assigning coverage of the most relevant and engaging arts stories in Canada and across the world.


You will work closely with freelance arts writers across the country, assigning, editing and publishing articles online according to our editorial calendar and also play a key role collaborating with teams producing digital video and other special editorial projects.

You are a talented storyteller with a deep knowledge of the arts and culture space in Canada. You have a background in creating engaging online content and collaborating with creators across different mediums. You will also be a strong advocate for inclusion in your work.

Key Tasks

  • Under the direction of the Senior Producer_
  • Produces content daily for the website and social networks
  • Helps lead a team of writers, producers and freelancers
  • Conceives and develops story ideas and concepts and participates in the preparation of team objectives
  • Develops Arts content including assigning, researching, gathering, writing and/or editing. As required, commissions writing and/or research.
  • Exercises editorial responsibility as delegated by Management.
  • As required, performs the following tasks:_ selects, rewrites and/or edits copy or text written by others determines the order and importance of various elements of the Arts homepage assigns, coordinates and supervises the work of contributors to CBC Arts for which the Producer is responsible identifies, develops and maintains contacts appropriate to the area of assignment; oversees internet site design and structures and organizes and coordinates online content;
  • Ensures, in collaboration with Copyright Clearance Officers or others, the proper and accurate clearance of all material used in digital platforms.

You possess the following:

  • Indepth experience in and a solid working knowledge of the arts scene in Canada
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant editorial experience; work in social video an asset
  • Job requires a university degree or equivalent
  • Experience assigning and working with a team of writers, editors, producers, developers, designers and support staff to produce digital content
  • Strong awareness of the media industry, keeping abreast of new technologies and how major industry players are employing a wide range of digital outputs and formats
  • Several years experience using social media, professionally, to reach audiences
  • Good understanding of project management and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and to respond to many competing demands in a short space of time
  • Ability to work, and direct the work of others, to tight deadlines without sacrificing creativity or quality whilst maintaining a positive environment
  • Ability to write clearly and concisely; copy editing experience, particularly using CP style, is a plus
  • Ability to take initiative, be proactive, and contribute positively to a team
  • Must be comfortable publishing in content management systems; experience with Polopoly is a plus
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, overtime and weekends as required
