About This OpportunityNew Germany is a rural inland community which is the centre of a group of communities in Lunenburg County on South Shore of Nova Scotia. This Riverside community straddles the shores of the LaHave River, and is just 25 minutes from Bridgewater. The local medical center is looking for one or more physicians to provide family medicine locum coverage to our community.
The clinic is located nearby our local pharmacy. It is a collaborative practice with two Nurse Practitioners. There is easy access to lab and x-ray services and a network of supportive specialist colleagues from the nearby regional center. This locum opportunity can be shaped around your schedule and interests.
Funding is through the rural locum program with a guaranteed daily rate as well as remuneration for travel. The minimum guaranteed daily rate is $800 per day, with a $175 per diem daily rate. A locum physician can cover for another physician for a maximum of 30 days per year. The community is enthusiastic and eager to make new physicians feel welcome and can assist in finding accommodations if needed.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- examine patients and take their histories, order diagnostic tests and laboratory procedures; advise patients on health care, health promotion, and disease prevention
- consultation and referral to other medical practitioners'
- act as a patient's advocate
- prescribe and administer medications and treatments, inoculations and vaccinations
- report births, deaths, contagious and other diseases as per Nova Scotia Public Health requirements
- part-time locum
- eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS)
- eligible for certification with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC)
- Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA)
New Germany offers a small-town feel with lots of activities and amenities. This unique town is split down the middle by the mighty LaHave River and connected by a rustic 20th century steel-made bridge and a newly added two-lane bridge. Speckled with home-style eateries and gift shops, New Germany makes a fantastic stopping place for the whole family. New Germany is also home to an abundance of natural amenities.
The 115 acre River Ridge Common features scenic trails and a natural playground that is certain to be a kid's dream come true. Other outdoor activities in New Germany could include a stroll down the magnificent South Shore Annapolis Valley Trail or a stop at Indian Falls to see the crashing waterfalls.
