About the Opportunity
Reporting to the Zone Medical Executive Director and collaborating with an Administrative Co-Lead, the Zone Medical Department Head provides strategic direction and operational leadership for the department. This role involves working closely with administrative leaders and ensuring seamless service delivery.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the administrative functions of the department, including conducting regular meetings and providing meeting minutes to the Zone Medical Executive Director.
- Collaborate with Hospitalist Site Leads, Medical Site Leads, and operational leadership to maintain service continuity and achieve key patient flow objectives. This includes managing scheduling practices such as vacation requests, on-call schedules, and locum utilization.
- Serve as an active member of the Zone Medical Advisory Committee (ZMAC), providing input on:
- The quality of care and treatment provided to patients within the department.
- Fulfillment of teaching and research responsibilities.
- Development, reporting, and oversight of departmental objectives, planning, budgeting, resource allocation, and utilization.
- Physician resource needs, in consultation with the Zone Medical Executive Director, VP Medicine, and Medical Site Leads.
- Lead the organization and implementation of clinical and academic activities within the department, ensuring alignment with NSHA organizational priorities. This includes monitoring standards, quality, and resource utilization.
- Work collaboratively with the co-lead to develop and implement a plan focused on improving access and flow for the zone, encompassing community hospitals and cross-facility transfers.
- Participate in meetings of the Access and Flow Network Council, contributing local context and collaborating on strategies, policies, and procedures that enhance patient access and flow.
- Ensure the ongoing maintenance and enforcement of professional standards within the department and implement quality assurance and improvement initiatives.
- Address and resolve medical staff issues, including those related to respectful workplace and interpersonal matters. Oversee complaint and discipline management for all department members as needed.
- Attend relevant committee meetings as assigned by the Medical Executive Director.
- Provide co-leadership, alongside the Zone administrative director, for strategic and operational planning and budgeting within the department.
- Monitor the performance and effectiveness of medical staff members within the department.
