In this role, the Lead - Business Development will support in driving World Vision Canada's (WVC) innovative and ambitious public sector revenue strategy that aims to strengthen current core sources of revenue, scale potential with new donors and catalyze new revenue from priority market segments, including International Foundations and Foreign Governments.

Within this objective, the purpose of the Lead is to provide overall leadership to strengthen WVC's ability to preposition with priority donors and partners, as well as win and manage large and complex grants from a variety of donors by providing input into WVC's strategic approach to International Foundations and Foreign Governments through an annual acquisition strategy appropriate training, guidance and expertise, and oversight to the Organization.

The Lead will be able to provide advice and support throughout the project lifecycle from pre-positioning to contract close out and be able to share the knowledge with teams across both WVC and the wider World Vision Partnership.

This position works in close collaboration with the Director, Development Programs to deliver on the objectives set out in World Vision Canada's Public Sector Revenue Strategy.


Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide strategic business development leadership with international foundations and foreign government donors:

  • Lead in identifying and creating major revenue acquisition opportunities and support World Vision partnership entities that aim to build the organizations profile and acquisition potential.
  • Offer strategic advice to WVC on the approach to securing funding from international foundations and foreign government donors in the delivery of its Public Sector Revenue Strategy.
  • Support World Vision in strengthening appropriate policies, procedures, and systems to enable WVC and the wider Partnership engage effectively with these donors.
  • Conduct ongoing evaluation of the risks involved in both the acquisition and ongoing contract management of projects.
Lead for all international foundations and foreign government specialist advice for opportunities pursued and managed by WVC:

  • Provide specialists advice and guidance to Business Development Managers leading proposal design, which includes ensuring appropriate financial and reputational risk management structures are in place and that cost models & recovery methods are consistent with organizational needs and deliver value for money.
  • Undertake and/ or support Business Development Managers with contract review, subcontracting and all negotiation processes with donors and partners/ subcontractors.
  • Provide ongoing advice to Field Offices and WVC staff implementing projects on behalf of the Organization.


Actively monitor and solicit intel on the International Foundations and Foreign Governments landscape and provide analysis updates, including where possible overviews of donor spending and opportunities.


Provide strategic, timely and expert tactical external engagement:

  • Drive a relationship mapping and prioritization strategy with key partners and donor to drive head quarter and field level engagement.
  • Work with relevant stakeholders across the WV Partnership to build and nurture a potential partner and donor pool for opportunities with primary donor groups, including Nordic Donors, such as SIDA, DANIDA and NORAD, as well as International Foundations such as MasterCard Foundation and LEGO Foundation.
  • Lead identification of opportunities for high level events and networking opportunities that enhance positioning and acquisition.
  • Set standards for and provide advice on messaging and framing of specific thematic issues to ensure "onevoice" across all our engagements with partners and clients.
