The Cariboo Regional District (CRD) invites qualified candidates to apply for one of two temporary full-time Regional Utilities or Utilities Operator positions, one within the south Cariboo and one within the central Cariboo of the Cariboo Regional District.  The term of this temporary position is unknown at this time.
 
Summary: 
Reporting directly to the Manager of Utilities, the successful applicant will operate and maintain regional water and sewer utilities.  Report, collect data and maintain work logs as required.  Respond to public inquiries, as necessary.
 
Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:
The successful applicant must hold and maintain Environmental Operator Certifications for Wastewater Collection Level I or II, Wastewater Treatment Level I or II, Water Distribution Level I or II and Water Treatment Level I or II, Small Water Systems.  Minimum of 5 years’ experience in making decisions in the field and in emergency/repair situations.  Working knowledge of underground utility systems.  The ability to exercise considerable independence of judgement and action in the operation of equipment and during utilities maintenance activities.  Training and/or experience in confined space and safe work procedures.  Other combinations of relevant education and experience, including applicable red seal trade qualification, may be considered.  Live within 30 minutes of the 108 Mile Utility building or Williams Lake CRD office to facilitate standby duties.  As a condition of continued employment, the incumbent must have and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License, which is also a term of employment.
 
Wage:
This is a BCGEU position. The current wage range is $36.92 - $40.49 per hour dependent on experience, plus $1.50 in lieu of benefits, 6% vacation pay and 4.8% statutory holiday pay.  A standard probationary period based on the aggregate of hours to reflect sixty working days will apply.  The workweek schedule may vary and therefore the applicant must be able to work weekends, rotating shifts and overtime.
 
HOURS OF WORK:
The incumbent may be required to work a non-standard schedule and unexpected overtime to respond to emergencies and participate in the on-call rotation schedule. Currently the south Cariboo position operates Tuesday - Friday schedule starting at 7:00 am and ending at 4:15 pm with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break and the central Cariboo position operates Monday - Thursday schedule starting at 7:00 am and ending at 4:15 pm with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break. The weekly schedule could develop into rotating regular scheduled shifts, which would include weekend shift work.  Should the work schedule change, there will be advance notice prior to implementation.  The successful incumbent will be required to be on call after hours on a rotational basis.
 
Worksite Location:
The successful candidate will operate out of the 108 Mile Utility building or Williams Lake CRD office.  Travel within the regional district will be required.  The incumbent must live within 30 minutes of the 108 Mile Utility building or Williams Lake CRD office.
