What can I expect to do in this role?In this role, you will:
• Administer area maintenance contracts related to maintenance and repair of transportation related facilities, ensuring work is completed to contract documents and specifications
• Monitor the contractors' delivery of maintenance and repair operations
• Ensure contractors maintain work records
• Monitor financial forecasts and expenditures
• Provide analytical support to ensure effective delivery and value for money

NOTE: This position requires frequent travel and overnight stays.

How do I qualify?Mandatory• The position requires the successful candidate to have a valid G licence or equivalent. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that s/he has a valid driver's licence upon being hired.

Road Maintenance and Construction Knowledge:• You have knowledge of the practices, procedures and standards related to the inspection and maintenance of roads, both during the summer and winter seasons
• You have demonstrated knowledge of the repair of roads, including drainage systems
• You have working knowledge of road construction practices, techniques, equipment and material
• You have an understanding of the deterioration process of roads, sufficient to assess and determine the appropriateness of repair technique and timing

Contract Management Knowledge and Skills:• You have knowledge of contract management and administration procedures, reporting requirements and documentation
• You have the ability to prepare cost estimates for proposed work
• You can read and interpret contract plans, documents and specifications to assist in negotiations and solve problems

Supervisory and Planning Skills:• You have proven ability to plan and lead activities within established timeframes
• You have the ability to supervise staff and manage stakeholders in high pressure situations

Communication, Negotiation and Computer Skills:• You demonstrate negotiation, oral and written communication skills to deal effectively with contractors and the public
• You have working knowledge of computers and various software applications such as word-processing, spreadsheets, databases and e-mail

Knowledge of Legislation:• You have the ability to interpret and apply various acts and regulations such as the Highway Traffic Act and the Public Transportation and Highway Improvement Act
