Position Summary:

We are seeking an energetic and reliable professional person to join our dynamic and evolving support center team as a Payroll and Operations Associate.

The successful candidates will be responsible for ensuring that all payroll and employee benefits processes and operations are completed in a timely and accurate manner and that employees and management teams are provided with information and support to enable the smooth running of the business and its underlying clients. The scope of this role is broader than just payroll processing and so we are interested in hiring individuals that are interested in expanding their experience in other related areas within the People & Culture remit and helping to build a new vision for that function.

Responsibilities:

Manage end-to-end payroll processing for clients, including data collection, calculations, and disbursement.

Process, track and report on expense claims in liaison with finance team.

Manage new employee setups, terminations and other relevant changes.

Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices and complete and file required regulatory reporting.

Consult with clients to customize payroll systems based on their specific needs and requirements.

Resolve any payroll discrepancies and provide detailed analyses and reports on payroll issues.

Conduct regular payroll audits to ensure accuracy.

Keep abreast of current trends in payroll processes and technology and suggest improvements.

Provide support for payroll-related issues in employee and manager self-service systems.

Liaise with finance department to ensure alignment with payroll changes.

Book standard payroll related entries in accounting ledger system.

Manage employee benefits administration and processing, including reporting, booking of journal entries, system admin and issues resolution and employee queries.

Act as primary point of contact for benefits vendors.

Act as subject matter expert for relevant rules and regulations related to payroll, employee benefits, tax, HST & regulatory filings, workers comp and OHS.

Liaise with finance department to ensure reconciliations and records are completed and updated on a timely basis.

Track vacation entitlements and use and update relevant systems.

Liaise with finance department and management to ensure vacation and time tracking processes are in line with policy and being followed effectively, including creating relevant reporting.

Assist management with organizing, tracking and documenting hiring processes and activity.

Work on projects assigned by management related to any of the above.

Any and all other duties as assigned by management and required to meet the objectives of the business.

Holiday work may be required from time to time

Qualifications:

· At least two years of experience completing end-to-end payroll processes

· Experience with managing employee benefits systems and processes

· Experience in a professional services or practice management environment is preferred

· Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills

· Excellent listening skills and the ability to ask probing questions, understand concerns, and overcome challenges

· Strong work ethic and self-starter, able to effectively manage multiple priorities and adapt to change within a fast-paced business environment

· Problem solver with a can-do attitude coupled with a strong sense of accountability

· Must possess a professional and friendly attitude and be able to quickly develop a rapport with employees, management and vendors

· Ability to learn and navigate new software quickly

· Previous experience with Wagepoint or similar payroll systems is an asset

· Strong technology skills and process improvement experience would be beneficial
