About the role

Weâre looking for a Claims Representative III, Accident Benefits, Dispute Management Team to join our growing team

This is a 12-month secondment/contract opportunity.

As a Claims Representative Level III, your work will have a big impact within the Dispute Management Team as you oversee disputes on Accident Benefit files. The successful candidate will have experience in handling accident benefits claims and possess a strong understanding of current and past legislations and regulations. You will manage, on a task basis, disputes within the LAT (Licence Appeal Tribunal). You must be detail oriented, exhibit effective communication skills along with strong problem solving and negotiation abilities. As a Claims Representative III, you will utilize your expertise to provide mentoring and coaching throughout the Accident Benefit Department in support of staff development.

Locations can be in either Ottawa, Ajax, Mississauga, Toronto, Richmond Hill and London offices.

What youâll do here:

  • Participate in the management of routine and moderately complex files through the dispute process.
  • Represent the company in the negotiation and settlement process at the License Appeal Tribunal.
  • Attend License Appeal Tribunal case conferences and hearings.
  • Demonstrate exposure recognition through proactive file handling with strong analysis.
  • Communicate in a timely and respectful manner with the lawyers.
  • Instruct Counsel on files in dispute.
  • Conduct investigations and identify additional information such as an independent medical examination, customer medical or employment history required to clarify and/or justify a claim.
  • Liaising with Technical Services to ensure appropriate action and is in place where appropriate.
  • Collaboration and networking with different business units.
  • Participate in Large Loss Meetings on files where appropriate.
  • Complete training and coaching initiatives.
  • Handle a regular intake of task assignments of License Appeal Tribunal disputes.

What you bring to the table:

  • University Degree or any combination of training and experience deemed relevant for the role.
  • Minimum 2 + years of Accident Benefit claims handling experience, with a thorough knowledge of the Statutory Accident Benefits Schedule and a working knowledge of the License Appeal Tribunal.
  • Knowledge of provincial legislation governing auto insurance, with ancillary legislation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with all levels of staff and customers.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Mediation Alternative Dispute Resolution Certificate is considered an asset.
