Your role

The Director of Conservation Services Branch is responsible in establishing and maintaining trusting, productive, and collaborative relationships with various Government of Yukon departments, Indigenous governments, and other stakeholders. This work is undertaken to advance the Department's and government's interests in the context of natural resource law compliance and enforcement that is safe, principled and effective, providing proactive solutions to operational challenges, and demonstrating alignment with strategic direction.

This position is responsible for providing leadership, analysis and advice to senior management and other government departments to ensure effective delivery of all Branch programs and enforcement of relevant legislation throughout the Yukon Territory.

Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister, this position is responsible for managing the Branch and two key operational groups, Field Operations and Program Support.

Essential Qualifications:

Please submit your resume clearly demonstrating how you meet each of the following qualifications. Note that selection for further consideration will be based solely on the information you provide in your application.

  • Post Secondary education in a natural resource management field (i.e. wildlife, fisheries, etc), ideally combined with business/public administration, or other relevant areas.
  • Significant experience in a management/leadership capacity, including strategic planning, and managing human and financial resources within a strategic context.
  • Experience in leading and managing projects involving multiple stakeholders and/or Indigenous governments. Ensuring that activities and projects include and respect the voices and contributions of all cultural groups, particularly indigenous and local communities.
  • Experience motivating and engaging team members through change.

Candidates with related post-secondary coursework and considerable experience as outlined above will be given equal consideration.

Conditions of Employment

  • Ability to obtain a Valid Firearms Possession and Acquisition License.
  • Security Clearance (RCMP).
  • Statutory Declaration of any convictions under any federal, provincial/territorial or municipal legislation within the last five years.

Job Requirements: Travel within the territory is required, and occasional travel within Canada and United States.
