Branch Information:
The Operations and Programs Branch is responsible for delivering essential municipal-type services to unincorporated Yukon communities in a sustainable and efficient manner. This branch is tasked with developing strategic plans and evaluating service delivery standards to cater to the unique needs of these communities, ensuring alignment with budgetary constraints and established standards.
The branch oversees the operation of water treatment plants and manages nine wastewater treatment facilities, in addition to solid waste facilities and recycling initiatives. Collaboration with a diverse range of Yukon Government employees, consultants, contractors, and partnerships with First Nations, municipalities, local governments, and non-profit organizations is essential to effectively implement and manage these services. Our commitment to long-term viability and environmental stewardship is paramount.
Key Responsibilities:
The Director of Operations and Programs will be accountable for the planning, evaluation, and direction of sustainable municipal-type services for unincorporated Yukon communities. This position will oversee the establishment of service levels based on budgetary guidelines and standards, directing the implementation of safe potable water systems, wastewater management, solid waste facilities, recycling programs, street lighting, walking bridges, and mosquito control initiatives. Services are delivered through a combination of direct and indirect employees, consultants, contractors, and agreements with First Nations, municipalities, local governments, or non-profit organizations.
The Director plays a critical role in ensuring that unincorporated Yukon communities receive essential local services that are safe, sustainable, and compliant with regulatory standards, ultimately enhancing the quality of life for residents.
Essential Qualifications:
Candidates must demonstrate how they meet the following qualifications:
- Master's degree in business administration, Environmental Studies, or a related field.
- Experience managing operational budgets.
- Experience supervising and/or managing staff.
- Experience in administering local services.
- Experience in managing public interests and diverse stakeholder engagement.
- Experience in establishing municipal service standards or infrastructure asset management related to local infrastructure operations and maintenance.
