City of Port Alberni Policy and Bylaw Analyst


The City of Port Alberni is a community of over 19,000 people. Located centrally on Vancouver Island, we are a well-serviced and growing municipality that offers residents affordable west  coast living, as well as proximity to oceans, lakes, rivers and mountains.
 
The City of Port Alberni is currently looking for a Policy and Bylaw Analyst to join a progressive and dynamic organization that provides a full range of programs and services to taxpayers. This 6-month term position will report to the Director of Corporate Services and offers a unique opportunity for the successful candidate to help shape the regulatory landscape of Port Alberni. This role will lead and support the modernization of current policies and bylaws, as well as the development of new policies and bylaws, while ensuring compliance with evolving standards.

Responsibilities:

Lead the review and modernization of current City policies and bylaws, and the development of new policies and bylawsResearch and analyze best practices and current standards regarding policies and bylaws related to a number of different departmentsPrepare reports, and attend/present at Committee of the Whole or Council meetingsProvide analytical support, through data collection and analysis, in alignment with a wide range of strategic City initiatives.Work independently and collaboratively with different departments as necessaryPerform related work as required

 
Qualifications & Experience:

University degree in a related discipline (e.g. public administration, law, social sciences, information studies) A minimum of two years experience researching policy or legal issues; conducting policy analysis or supporting policy-making processes in government, non-profit or private sector organizationsAn equivalent combination of education and experience may be consideredAbility to communicate effectively orally and in writing, and to create effective presentationsStrong research and critical thinking skills, as well as a high level of self-motivationAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships and work in a collaborative manner

 
This is a temporary position for a 6-month term. The annual salary is $89,551; a comprehensive benefit package and flex day work schedule is also provided.
