The West End YMCA Centre is one of nine full service health and fitness centres across the Greater Toronto area. The Centre provides a full range of services and community programs to more than 9,000 members, including children, youth and adults, who represent the diversity of Toronto and its communities.
The Instructor Children and Youth Dance teaches dance specific programming to children and youth. Instructors develop short and long term lesson plans that identify the unique needs of the participants. Deliver course content and examine participants following industry standard dance criteria
Recognize participant learning styles and deliver content accordingly
Communicate (verbal and written) child’s progress to parents and Supervisor
Sets up and takes down recreational, program and other equipment as required – at the same time checking that equipment is safe and in good repair (reporting immediately all malfunctions and removing the damaged equipment immediately from circulation)
Perform other related duties to fulfill commitment to quality programs for all members as assigned from time to time by supervisor
Focus on the health, safety and wellbeing of all children, youth, and vulnerable people in YMCA programs including understanding legal and moral obligations related to reporting suspected child abuse to Child Protection Services
Diploma or degree in Fine Arts (Dance) or equivalent training through a recognized organization
Standard First Aid & CPR level C is as asset
Minimum 1 year experience Instructing Children and Youth in Dance
Good theoretical and practical knowledge of various stages of child and youth development through previous related experience and continuing professional development
evidence continuing professional development in working with children and youth
Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; Flexibility regarding assigned work schedules, including weekday afternoons, evenings and weekends
