Job Title: Legal Intern/ Researcher/ (Summer Student)

Tasks and Responsibilities:
The successful applicant will have the opportunity to participate in the work of the HRC including:
– Conducting human rights research and preparing related reports,
– Assisting in the day to day operations of the Commission,
– Creating and developing educational materials and presentations,
– Observing and in some cases, participating, in the investigation, resolution and adjudication of complaints.

Location & Hours: Charlottetown PEI, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., some alternative hours may be required

Remuneration: $20/ hour including vacation pay (37.5 hours per week)

Skills:
– Excellent research, writing and communication skill.
– Familiar with human rights issues.
– Organized, independent, professional, and creative.

Education:
Post secondary student or recent graduate. Preference will be given to law students, however, students in Education, Social Justice, Indigenous Studies, Para-Legal or other relevant fields will be considered. Applicants with relevant work experience will also be considered.

Bilingualism will be considered an asset.

Funding for this application is provided, in part, by the Canada Summer Jobs Grant, which does require applicants to be between 15-30 years of age at the start of employment, and be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration Refugee Protection Act, and legally entitled to work in PEI.
