The Development Manager position at The Fur-Bearers is a contract position that will work as part of a small and talented team. Renewal of this position is based on performance and budgetary considerations. The ideal candidate is a self-starter whose primary responsibility is creating and executing a long-term fundraising plan that incorporates existing and novel acquisition strategies, donor stewardship, data-driven analysis, and new funding opportunities to support our mission.

Job Location: This is a work-from-home position, in Canada, no fixed office location.

The Development Manager position at The Fur-Bearers is a contract position that will work as part of a small and talented team. Renewal of this position is based on performance and budgetary considerations. The ideal candidate is a self-starter whose primary responsibility is creating and executing a long-term fundraising plan that incorporates existing and novel acquisition strategies, donor stewardship, data-driven analysis, and new funding opportunities to support our mission. During the course of this term, success will be measured by the ability to achieve/exceed mutually agreed upon quarterly fundraising goals.
Acquisition of New Donors
Collaborate closely with the Director of Communications and Social Media & Communications Coordinator to develop and execute strategic plans aimed at acquiring new donors. This will include digital marketing across multiple channels.
Partner with the Director of Communications to curate and maintain development-related content and tools across online and print platforms, ensuring consistency and effectiveness in messaging and branding.
Work alongside the Director of Communications and Executive Director to establish and uphold a cohesive fundraising strategy among staff, board members, and volunteers regarding donor acquisition and fundraising initiatives at The Fur-Bearers. This includes providing training and resources to ensure all stakeholders are well-equipped to communicate the organization’s mission and encourage giving effectively.
Develop and implement a donor stewardship program that will include existing systems, donor journey automation, LYBUNT and SYBUNT management, and acquisition strategies.
Conduct prospect research to identify new funding opportunities, including grants, corporate sponsorships, and individual donors.
Utilize tools of our CMS to maximize its use for development.
Maintain accurate donor records and databases to track donor interactions and fundraising progress.
Prepare regular reports on fundraising activities, donor acquisition, and revenue projections for organizational leadership.
Ensure development is consistent with The Fur-Bearers’ and Canada Revenue Agency requirements.
Post-secondary education in a related field – college minimum, university preferred – or a combination of education, comparable skills and experience.
Demonstrated proficiency in use of computer software including Microsoft’s suite of tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), email and scheduling systems, and other internet applications.
Previous experience working with one or a variety of fundraising databases is an asset (preferably Keela).
Excellent interpersonal skills and very strong person-to-person relationship-building skills.
Exemplary attention to detail with excellent planning, organizational and time management skills.
Qualified to work full time in Canada.
Willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends.
Demonstrated love for wildlife, animals and animal welfare.
