Pearson College UWC is recruiting for an outstanding External Relations and Communications Manager.

Position Summary

We are seeking an External Relations and Communications Manager to play a vital role in ensuring that Pearson College positively engages with our existing and prospective stakeholders; locally, nationally, and internationally.

Leveraging the power of existing and new platforms to grow our reach, a commitment to storytelling sits at the heart of this role’s success. This role will work closely with the entire Advancement and External Relations team and members of the College’s leadership team to develop creative approaches to grow and engage our audience reach and support revenue development. The successful candidate will have a creative flair, a passion for storytelling and strong marketing communications skills that will support the College’s strategic plan and 50th anniversary objectives.

Major Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement external relations and communications strategies and tactics to help meet the College’s strategic plan including the 50th anniversary objectives.
  • Proactively create and capitalize on opportunities to connect Pearson College with community partners to grow our impact, reach, and revenue.
  • Analyze all activity to measure effectiveness and optimize return on investment and delivery against KPIs.
  • Prepare quarterly reports on all aspects of the organization’s marketing and communications activity for the Management Team and Board of Directors.
  • Work closely with the other department heads to bring innovative communication approaches and tailored messaging to our key audiences to support philanthropy, admissions, facility rentals and other revenue generation.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of all school publications, print and digital.
  • Research, develop, write, and edit original copy, content, and articles for print and digital publications platforms.
  • Work closely with contractors where appropriate, to ensure consistently high-quality output and return on investment.
  • Research/write or supervise the development of speaking notes, presentations, messages, backgrounders and related material for College leadership and other representatives.
  • Deliver robust reputation and issues management support including anticipating, identifying, and tracking potential issues, drafting issue notes, and providing strategic advice to leadership and, as necessary, operations and academic personnel.
  • Supervise the Digital Content and Media Relations Coordinator.

Education, Skills & Experience

  • Exceptional storytelling abilities with superior verbal, written and editing skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and a minimum of five years’ experience in a similar role in marketing communications, fundraising and/or educational marketing communications experience an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and execute a marketing and strategic communications plan for multiple target audiences.
  • The capability to successfully manage, prioritize, and execute multiple concurrent tasks while meeting tight deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrated experience working with cross-departmental teams and the ability to work with people at all levels of the organization.
  • Diplomacy, professionalism, and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Passion for international understanding, education, peace, and sustainability.
  • Must be legally allowed to work in Canada.

Compensation & Organization

  • Salary: $75,000 to $90,000 per annum plus an excellent benefits package. The College offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes flexible schedule and hybrid model, four weeks of vacation with additional paid time off during Christmas, extended health & dental coverage, matching RRSP program and on-site meal program.
  • This is a full-time, permanent position, located at Pearson College UWC in Metchosin, approximately 40 minutes from downtown Victoria
