**JOB SUMMARY**

The Manager, IT Infrastructure’s role is to plan, organize, implement and manage overall network and data centre operations to ensure the stable operation of the college’s IT infrastructure. This includes developing, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing key functional areas, particularly network infrastructure, server, storage and data centre infrastructure, classroom infrastructure and telecommunications systems. The Manager, IT Infrastrucure will also schedule and direct activities to resolve problems in a timely and accurate fashion.

**REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS**

The Manager, IT Infrastructure reports to the Chief Information Officer. Reporting directly to the Manager, IT Infrastructure are:

- 7 Systems Administrators - CUPE
- 4 Network Administrators - CUPE
- 1 AV Technician - CUPE

The Manager, IT Infrastructure is a member of the ITS Management Team. The manager is expected to work in close partnership and cooperation with the other Managers of Information Technology Services. This partnership includes effective priority setting and balancing of resources to meet overall college objectives. Develops and maintains effective, positive relationships with all clients of IT services at the college.

**ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS**

Strategy & Planning
- Design and implement strategic and tactical plans to ensure infrastructure capacity meets existing and future requirements.
- Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and associated training plans on infrastructure administration and project management.
- Participate in the development of IT strategies in collaboration with the IT management team.
- Conduct needs assessments and research and make funding proposals and recommendations on products, services, protocols, and standards in support of all infrastructure procurement efforts.
- Establish and maintain service level targets with business and program units and schools.
- Conduct feasibility studies for various upgrade projects, improvements, and other conversions.

Acquisition & Deployment
- Prepare RFPs, bid proposals, contracts, scope of work reports, and other documentation for infrastructure projects and associated efforts.
- Manage the operating and capital budgets for her/his areas of responsibility.
- Negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure infrastructure-specific products and services.
- Assist with the planning and deployment of infrastructure security measures.
- Plan and manage the assessment, selection, purchase and implementation of new and replacement infrastructure systems.

Operational Management
- Manage and set priorities for the design, maintenance, development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of all college-wide infrastructure systems, including LANs, WANs, wired and wireless networks, servers, storage, security and so on.
- Establish and maintain IT infrastructure standards and departmental and operational procedures.
- Oversee testing network performance and providing network performance statistics and reports; develop strategies for maintaining network infrastructure.

- and long-term financial forecasts for expanded functionality/user base as well as hardware refresh.
- Establish and maintain regular written and in-person communications with the College’s executives, decision-makers, stakeholders, department and program heads, schools and end users regarding pertinent infrastructure activities.
- Practice IT asset management, including maintenance of component inventory and related documentation.
- Manages reporting staff, overseeing and participating in selection, coaching, mentoring, development, and performance management of the assigned team.
- Plan and manage the retirement and disposal of legacy systems as they are taken out of service.
- Ensure that after-hour emergencies are responded to promptly.
- Responsible for monitoring network, system performance and planning for system enhancements to ensure acceptable response times and service level targets are achieved.
- Maintain external liaisons with colleagues at other post-secondary institutes, with College suppliers and consultants and with members of relevant professional associations and members of the local community.
- Leads large and small projects using Project Management skills.
- Attend and participate in Change Advisor Board (CAB) meetings.
- Participate on task forces and College committees as required.

**OTHER FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES**

Demonstrates effective leadership while serving on college-wide task forces and committees on behalf of ITS as required.

Participates in community professional associations.
