Oak Bay Parks, Recreation and Culture is seeking an organized individual who has proven leadership experience for our Facility Maintenance Lead Hand position. This position is responsible for custodial and maintenance work involving the operation and maintenance of the Oak Bay Recreation Centre’s ice rink, swimming pool, air supported structures, associated recreation centre facilities and equipment. Under the direction of the Facilities Operations Coordinator the Lead Hand is also responsible for the supervision of maintenance staff performing routine maintenance and custodial work. Oak Bay Parks, Recreation and Culture offers a fantastic Municipal Benefits package which includes Pension Plan, Health & Dental coverage, vacation, and sick entitlement. Other benefits include a staff facility pass that provides access to our weightroom, pool, skating rink, and drop-in fitness classes.

RESPONSIBILITES
  • Operates water heating and filtering, ice-making and ice surfacing equipment and performs minor servicing and maintenance of equipment.
  • Maintains during shift an ice sheet(s), swimming pool, bubble, and associated enclosed areas.
  • Assists with and ensures that all custodial functions are carried out to a high standard.
  • Maintains inventory of custodial supplies and advises Maintenance Supervisor of supply needs.
  • Ensures that workers are carrying out their prescribed duties, following work procedures as laid down.
  • Ensures that appropriate building security procedures are in place and enforced by designated staff.
  • Performs a variety of building cleaning and maintenance functions and related work as required.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Four years of directly related experience in custodial and mechanical maintenance aspects of recreation facilities maintenance.
  • Supervisory experience including hiring, scheduling, and evaluating staff.
  • Knowledge of plant equipment and maintenance of recreation facilities including ice making, building heating, air supported structures, pool heating and filtration equipment.
  • Level I and II Pool Operator’s certificate.
  • Valid Refrigeration Operators certificate recognized under the BC Pressure Vessels and Boilers Act required.
  • A valid BC Driver’s License (Class 5).
  • Working knowledge of WHMIS.
  • Current Emergency First Aid & CPR C certifications.
  • Valid B.C. Driver’s License.
  • Provision of a current Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening (Note: It is the applicant’s financial responsibility to obtain this).


HOURS OF WORK Monday-Friday – 5:00am-1:00pm
Hours and days are subject to variation to meet operational requirements.

LOCATION(S) Oak Bay Recreation Centre

RATE $34.32/hr (step 1) - $36.71/hr (step 3).

STATUS Full Time (This is a union position)
