The Canadian Pharmacists Association (CPhA) is actively recruiting for a Director, Advocacy & Policy to join our Public & Professional Affairs department.

We are a fully remote workforce and are looking for someone who is able to be fully productive, efficient and effective in a remote environment.

Job Summary

The ideal candidate is a forward-thinking and influential person that will lead CPhA’s efforts in shaping healthcare policy and managing federal government relations activities. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about making a substantial impact in the healthcare field and has a strong background in advocacy, policy development, and strategic government relations.

Duties and Tasks
  • The Director, Advocacy & Policy will be responsible for, but not limited to:
  • Advocacy Campaign and Policy Oversight: Spearheading the development and implementation of compelling advocacy campaigns and policy initiatives that promote the interests of Canadian pharmacists, pharmacy and the healthcare sector.
    • Ensuring these initiatives align with CPhA's strategic goals and effectively influencing public policy.
  • Strategic Leadership : Collaborating with the executive team to formulate and execute comprehensive strategic plans for advocacy, policy development, and government relations.
    • Providing expert insights and advice on policy trends, legislative changes, and strategic opportunities.
  • Government Relations: Building and maintaining robust relationships with key federal government stakeholders, including Members of Parliament, Senators, political and department officials, and relevant government agencies.
    • Acting as the primary representative of CPhA in critical governmental meetings and public events.
  • Team Management and Development: Overseeing the policy staff, providing guidance, mentorship, and leadership.
    • Encouraging a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence in all advocacy and policy endeavors.
  • Collaboration with Communications: Working closely with the communications team to ensure a unified and effective message across all campaigns and policy statements.
    • Assisting in translating complex policy issues into clear, impactful messages that resonate with a variety of audiences.
  • Performance Measurement: Regularly assessing and reporting on the effectiveness of advocacy efforts and policy initiatives.
    • Utilizing data and feedback to continually refine and enhance strategies.
  • Occasionally travelling as required
Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in political science, public administration, or a related field.

Experience

  • Proven track record in advocacy, policy development, or a related role.

Skills

  • Demonstrated leadership skills and experience managing complex projects.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with an ability to engage and influence diverse stakeholders and government officials.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation abilities. Bilingual (English/French) is highly desirable.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the Canadian healthcare system and pharmacy practice is highly desirable.
  • Ability to display a commitment to and advocate for diversity and inclusion
Salary Range
  • $95 - $115,000
