The Business Manager reports to their Unit Head and has administrative reporting to the Executive Director Rady Faculty of Health Sciences. The Business Manager is responsible for coordinating the overall resource management of the Unit which may be based out of multiple sites.
The Business Managers primary responsibility is the finances of the Unit. The financial stability of the Unit requires interaction with numerous groups including, Shared Health, Winnipeg Regional Health Authority, the University of Manitoba and hospitals where the members provide coverage. Through the financial portfolio, the business manager will take a lead role in the area of finance, as well as human and capital resources.
The incumbent is responsible for integrating departmental resources with both long and short-term objectives. In this regard, the Business Manager participates in the development of department policies and is specifically responsible for setting financial objectives and directing staff and funding appropriately. The incumbent is responsible for developing infrastructures and controls related to: overseeing expenditures through University/ and overhead budgets, monitoring of all research and trust accounts and managing personnel.
The nature of the scope of the work performed by the Business Manager is non-routine, highly varied and requires a high level of management experience and competence. Must have a solid command of accounting principles and be able to devise, implement and review management systems in accounting, personnel and grants administration.
Must also have a solid understanding of budgeting processes.
Demonstrated skills in planning, determining objectives, developing and choosing options and implementing related activities.
MINIMUM FORMAL EDUCATION/TRAINING:
~ Proficiency in generally accepted accounting principles, accounting systems and computer programs including Microsoft Office.

5 years experience in increasingly responsible senior administrative support positions
~ Management experience, particularly in health care administration is an asset
~ Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access)
~ Knowledge of the University of Manitoba policies and systems is preferred (FAST, Banner, Concur and EPIC)
