Position Overview

Calian is looking for a Bilingual Technical Writer to provide document quality control support to DTAES, and DGAEPM in support of the DND/CAF aircraft fleets (crewed and uncrewed) and related systems and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Complete all documentation tasks assigned by DTAES 2-2-2-2, Airworthiness Documentation Coordinator, to meet TAP document deliverable timelines and standards
  • Review and edit TAP documents and correspondence to ensure accuracy and compliance with DTAES technical writing standards in both official languages
  • When required, consult with document Offices of Primary Interest (OPIs) and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to resolve discrepancies in reviewed material
  • Perform translation accuracy checks of TAP document translated by third- parties, and verify the quality, required layout, grammar and style of the deliverables
  • Support the publishing of TAA content on the intranet and internet web pages, including:
  • Use the WIM (the DND Web content management system) to update existing, or create new, DTAES intranet pages, and the Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) (the Government of Canada’s web publisher’s platform for Canada.Ca) to perform updates to existing TAA internet pages or create new ones
  • Ensure all programmed web content is compliant with the Government of Canada’s web standards
  • Collaborate with ADM(Mat) Web Content Coordinator to publish web content on the TAA internet and DTAES intranet web sites

Qualifications

  • Must be eligible for or currently hold a valid Secret (Level II) Clearance with the Government of Canada
  • Must have a certificate, diploma, or degree in archival studies, library sciences, or technical writing, or other discipline that focuses on information and documentation management from a recognized post- secondary institution OR Must have been an Aerospace Engineering Officer (AERE) within the DND or Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) OR Must have a Technologist Diploma in an aeronautical field;
    or must have been qualified as a Canadian Armed Forces aircraft technician
  • Must have five (5) years’ experience working as a librarian OR Must have two (2) years’ experience working as a librarian or technical writer within a government department OR Must have one (1) year experience working as a librarian or technical writer in the Department of National Defence OR Must have been the designated Technical Authority on a DND Publications Management Services (PMS) contract
  • Must be fluent in English and French
  • Strong proficiency in MS Word and PDF software (e.G., Adobe Pro, Foxit) to be able to create and edit complex documents and forms
  • Have functional knowledge of easy web content management applications (previous experience with Adobe Experience Manager preferred)
  • Have working knowledge of basic HTML programming language (prefer previous programming experience)
  • Be familiar with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 for writing for the web
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail and accuracy
