Canada Housing Quality Network Full time

Bursting with culture, energy, and opportunity, the London Borough of Waltham Forest is a fantastic and exciting place to work.

We are a highly ambitious borough. Driven by culture and the innate creativity of our residents, we have developed new and innovative ways to build our communities. Our Council is relentlessly resident-focused, insight-led, digitally driven and commercially minded; a Council focused on meeting the needs of our existing and future residents.

London Borough of Waltham Forest is one of theMayor of London’s Good Work Standard employers. This accreditation is a proof of our commitment to creating a healthy, fair and inclusive workplace. This includes fair pay and conditions, workplace well-being, skills and progression and diversity and recruitment.

About the role:

Our Housing Service is committed to safeguarding the well-being of our residents. With approximately 10,000 council homes and 2,000 leaseholder properties under our care, ensuring the safety of our residents is paramount. We are seeking an Assistant Director for Strategic Asset Management & Compliance to join our talented team within the Housing Service.

In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for ensuring statutory and regulatory compliance across a range of essential areas, including Gas Servicing, Lift Maintenance, Fire Safety, Asbestos, Electrical Testing, Water Management, and other associated risks. Aligned with our broader Capital Strategy Asset Management and net-zero ambitions, this entails meticulous attention to detail in managing our assets to ensure resident safety remains our top priority. By enhancing the energy efficiency of our housing stock, in accordance with targets outlined in the Council’s Climate Action plan, we strive to create a living environment that is both sustainable and safe for generations to come.

Additionally, you will oversee the development and maintenance of the Council’s 10-year housing capital programme, assuming ownership of all building cost inputs into the Council’s 30-year HRA Business Plan. Efficient and effective contract management, in accordance with our organisation’s performance framework, is paramount in ensuring the continued safety and security of our residents.

As a strategic leader in the Housing Assets service area, your leadership will also play a pivotal role in contributing to Mission Waltham Forest. Specifically, your efforts will align with our vision to ‘Make Waltham Forest a great place to live and age well.’ By ensuring all residents can make the most of their strengths and live healthier, longer, and more independent lives, you will directly contribute to our goal of creating a more equal borough by 2030.

About you
