Nenan Dane zaa Deh Zona Family Services Society (Nenan) is seeking a highly motivated and dynamic individual to join our team as a Cultural Connections Coordinator Reporting to the Indigenous Child & Youth Mental Health (ICYMH) Clinical Manager of Nenan Dane zaa Deh Zona Family Services Society (Nenan), the Cultural Connections Coordinator is responsible for the implementation of programing and supports for children and youth living in MCFD care that provide opportunities for cultural resources and exposure. This role is crucial for upholding the commitment to ensure all Indigenous Children and Youth referred by MCFD in the Northeast will be connected or reconnected to their Indigenous community(s), family, and culture. Education and Experience: Social Service Worker Diploma, Indigenous Human Services Diploma, Social Work Diploma and/or equivalent combination of training, education and experience 1-2 years of experience working with children and youth in MCFD care preferred Experience working within northern Indigenous communities and/or non-profit organizations Required: A valid Class 5 BC drivers' licence and acceptable drivers abstract required A clear criminal record check with vulnerable sector search, with results acceptable to childcare regulations Role and Responsibilities: Receive Ministry of Child and Family Development (MCFD) referrals under the guidance of the ICYMH Clinical Manager and connects with social workers, current caregivers, and/or children and youth to complete an assessment and develop and implement a Cultural Connections Plan Develop and source cultural resources to support connection to the identified culture of Indigenous children and youth, reunification, and/or permanency planning Prepare genograms to map family and community connections Consult and collaborate with supervisor(s) and other staff to support the ongoing development and implementation of a Cultural Connections Plan for each child and youth referred Work collaboratively with MCFD, delegated agencies, and First Nations to identify culturally safe placement options and community-based supports. Participate in discharge and transition planning for children and youth exiting care Identify barriers and propose strategies or resources to support children being placed within family, community, or Nation. Supports with facilitation of visits for children/youth to attend their Indigenous community(s), family, and culture where appropriate Coordinating and facilitating all programing as directed by the ICYMH Clinical Manager Maintain accurate and up-to-date case documentation and reporting procedures Provide consultation to the relevant staff and/or service providers in comprehensive case planning for Indigenous children and youth in care of MCFD Must maintain a high level of confidentiality on all matters relating to the affairs of Nenan Deh zaa Deh Zona Family Services Society Performs all other duties and responsibilities in accordance with Nenan policies, standards, and procedures, and as directed by the ICYMH Clinical Manager Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Awareness of the diverse cultures, histories and traditions of Treaty 8 First Nations, Indigenous and Metis peoples of northeastern BC Ability to attend company-paid travel for events such as powwows, culture camps, etc is required Ability to participate in collaborative decision-making and cultivating a positive team environment Awareness of the impacts of colonization and generational trauma affecting Indigenous communities Awareness of the dynamics of active and ongoing addiction, abuse, family violence, neglect, grief, mental health, healing and recovery Strong awareness in the value of harm reduction practices Knowledge and consistent implementation of ethics and boundaries Proficiency in Microsoft Office Location: Position is based in Fort St John but company-paid travel within the northeastern BC region is required. Hours: 35 hours per week. Monday to Friday, 8:30-4:30. Evening and weekend work as required. Compensation: $50,000 to $60,000 based on experience and qualifications.
