Support aquatics supervisor in recruiting, hiring, training, coaching, all swim instructor staff and volunteers.
helps participants and families connect with each other and the YMCA; responds to situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures; Is an active on-deck mentor and swim instructor – Role models and consistently applies safety rules, policies, guidelines, in the aquatics area.
Continual on-deck (10%) and in-water coaching (80%) and training of swim instructor staff to meet scanning, health & safety, opportunities for growth, program quality improvement and YMCA Aquatics SAM standards.
Ensures aquatics programs are safe and high quality by continual in-water coaching and developing of relationships with staff, volunteers, participants and members.
University degree in Recreation, Physical Education, Education or related experience an asset.
Certifications: Standard First Aid & CPR-C, Lifesaving National Lifeguard (NL), Must hold one of YMCA Swim Instructor (YSI), Water Safety Instructor (WSI), OR Swim Instructor - Lifesaving (SI).
Lifesaving Supervisor Training, First Aid Instructor (FAI) or National Lifeguard Instructor (NLI) an asset
Aquatics Emergency Care (AEC) and National Coaching Certification (NCCP) are an asset .
Must obtain employer specific WHMIS and child abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date

Is a mentor and role model for staff, can develop teams through on-deck/in-water coaching.
