Our Distribution group is currently looking to add Powerline Technician (PLT) Apprentices to our growing team in Central Ontario Region. Reporting to the Foreman, the PLT Apprentices will assist in the installation, rearrangement, maintenance, operation, removal, and inspection of electrical distribution facilities, drive and operate line trucks and associated equipment, and perform other miscellaneous and other duties as required.
We are open to new Apprentices who are registered with the Ontario Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Commission as well as Apprentices Level One through Four who are looking to continue their journey towards their Interprovincial Journeyperson Powerline Technician Certificate.
Work with a Journeyman Powerline Technician and gain hours towards obtaining Journeyperson Powerline Technician Certificate
Work on steel tower transmission line on puller/tension sites
Erect and maintain steel, wood or concrete poles, towers and guy wires
Splice, solder and insulate conductors and related wiring to connect power distribution networks
Open and close switches and install grounding devices to lines and equipment under the direct supervision of a Journeyman or Foreman
May climb poles and/or ride in bucket to install or repair wires, arms, insulators or other hardware on poles. Install and repair underground facilities such as cable, transformers, potheads and pedestals
Install pole hardware and auxiliary equipment such as transformers, lightning arresters, switches, fuses and insulators, using hand tools and mechanical devices
Must be enrolled, or eligible to enroll, as a PLT apprentice with the Ontario Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Commission
Willingness to work away from home and work a variety of shifts
This project is a unionized worksite. Candidates who are current union members will be considered an asset and must be willing to join to join CUSW union
