The Flexible Films division services North America with a focus on manufacturing Food, Medical, and Industrial packaging. We extrude engineered films and offer state-of-the-art rotogravure printing, lamination, and bag-making capabilities.


The Layfield Geosynthetics division can be separated into two main business segments: Construction Products and Environmental Containment. Construction Products supplies geosynthetics and industrial fabrics to civil construction, energy, mining, and other contracting sectors. In addition to distribution, the Geosynthetics division has a specialty construction and installations arm of the business focused on Environmental Containment.

Advisory Board

The company has an 8-person Advisory Board consisting of 5 independent members plus the Executive Chairman / CEO, the Chief Financial Officer, and the Chief Administrative Officer. This Board reviews and advises on all aspects of the Company’s operation, development, and health. Regular meetings are scheduled quarterly and augmented by an annual planning meeting held jointly with the senior management team, plus occasional additional meetings when required (generally 6-7 meetings per year). The independent Advisory Board member is a paid part-time position.


The company is currently recruiting potential members to replace current members who will reach retirement age over the next few years.The recruitment process is being stewarded by the Lead Director and the CAO. Age 72 is the typical retirement age.


Advisory Board Experience

  • C-Suite experience in building a successful private company.
  • Industry experience in one of the following areas: plastics, manufacturing, distribution or construction (geosynthetic or civil).
  • Plastic industry experience in either resin or manufacturing
  • Contracting and/or construction/installation knowledge, especially in water reservoir or containment projects
  • Industrial manufacturing
  • Experience working with privately owned and operated family businesses.
  • Background in Human Resources, Legal, or Corporate governance.
  • Operating experience and knowledge in both USA and Canada.
  • 5+ years of potential board service ahead.
  • Able to attend Layfield board meetings; most are held in Richmond, BC; some meetings may require travel outside the lower mainland.


General

We are seeking individuals with functional knowledge, skills, or experience in one or more of the following areas: manufacturing, the flexible packaging industry, new product development, leadership in high-growth enterprises, US and overseas markets, construction and project management, and industrial environmental protection/containment, with a focus on environmental sustainability. This expertise is typically acquired through C-suite or other senior-level roles in mid-sized private companies. Strong communication abilities, both in board debate and written form, are required.


In addition to a solid understanding of senior management and board dynamics, the ideal candidate will have experience with the management and governance of family-owned businesses. Residence within the BC lower mainland is strongly preferred, but not essential if offset by relevant industry expertise. Possession of the ICD.D designation would be a significant asset, as would previous for-profit board experience.
