About the Role
The Head of Sales role is a newly created position and our first significant effort to expand distribution outside of DTC (direct-to-consumer) eCommerce. With a proven brand and innovation strategy, a high level of consumer demand, and a wholesale platform already in place, the right candidate has the opportunity to step in and make dramatic gains right away.
The right candidate for this role considers themselves a "hustler" with an eat-what-you-kill mentality. We're looking for someone with extensive sales, business development, and managerial experience.
You will generate leads and sell our products to the professional channel (hair salons). Relationship building, network leveraging, and an ability to sell in the customer experience at all levels (brand, product education, etc.) to win distribution will be keys to your success.
Responsibilities:
Working closely with and reporting directly to our Founder & CEO, you will be responsible for revitalizing and growing our salon channel business across Canada. Some of your key responsibilities will include:
- Creating and executing a sales and marketing strategy that expands and dramatically grows salon distribution in Canada
- Working cross-functionally with the Brand/Growth team to set up, launch and grow our stylist affiliate program
- Designing a stylist/salon product education and onboarding program
- Recruiting, training, managing and leading a small sales team
- Cold calling independently owned salons across Canada to introduce them to our brand and products and closing sales (virtual and in-person)
- Creating new and/or strengthening existing relationships with brokers, buyers, and distribution partners in Canada
- Building monthly/quarterly/annual sales plans
- Assuming full accountability for wholesale forecasting and inventory management
- Ensuring measurement tools, KPIs, and project tracking systems are in place and effectively being used to optimize the business
- Attending and managing industry trade shows (i.e. Cosmo Prof), as required
Required Experience & Skills:
- 8+ years of sales and/or business development experience, with a minimum of 3 years in management
- Experience putting together sales plans and inventory forecasting
- Experience selling a physical good (vs. service)
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills, both oral and written (A+ spelling & grammar a must), virtual and in-person
- Detail-obsessed
- Strong data analysis skills
- Proven negotiation skills
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office (including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) and G-Suite products
- P&L management expertise, including margins, retail math, forecasting, and analysis, to drive financial decision-making.
Nice-to-Have:
- Door-to-door sales experience (or other commission-based sales experience)
- Other direct sales & marketing experience
- Understanding of the hair care industry and competitive landscape (network in hair salon industry in Canada an asset)
- Project and account management experience
- Experience working in a fast-paced entrepreneurial/start-up environment preferred; comfortable working in a continuously changing and ambiguous environment.
