Job Title: Senior IT Business Analyst

Location: Edmonton, Alberta.

1-year contract.

Position Overview:

Our client is looking for an IT Business Analysts to assist in the successful modernization of legacy applications. The selected candidate will work alongside an existing team of internal and external resources to support the documentation of the current state, identify and execute application modernization initiatives, and support the development of new applications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to analyze business requirements and support the modernization of legacy applications.
  • Document the current state of legacy systems and provide insights for the design and execution of modernization initiatives.
  • Provide support for the development of new applications and ensure alignment with business needs.
  • Translate complex technical language into clear, actionable communication for non-technical stakeholders, both verbally and in writing.
  • Perform detailed business requirement analysis related to data management, acquisition, quality, and lineage.
  • Support the migration and integration of legacy systems with modern technologies and applications.
  • Maintain and support legacy mainframe applications, including those built with NATURAL/ADABASE, JCL, COBOL, and DB2.
  • Plan and execute modernization strategies for legacy systems while ensuring minimal disruption to ongoing operations.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Technical Skills: Extensive experience articulating and translating technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders
  • Work Experience: Hands-on experience with business requirement analysis, solution architecture and design, and deployment for data management, data acquisition, data preparation, data quality, and data lineage/provenance
  • Experience with data modeling, ingestion, ETL, ELT, and data joins
  • Significant experience in the maintenance and development of legacy mainframe applications
  • Direct experience working with legacy ADABASE/NATURAL applications
  • Experience working with legacy mainframe applications using DB2

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

  • Work Experience: Experience working with Health and/or Health Services
  • Previous experience in IT within the Healthcare industry
  • Experience with legacy COBOL applications

Position Requirements:

  • Strong background in healthcare, particularly with Health Care Insurance projects.
  • Ability to support and maintain legacy systems while planning for modernization.
  • Experience working in a multi-vendor IT services environment.
  • Excellent documentation and technical writing skills.
  • Ability to provide strategic technical advice to leadership and project teams.
