Bell Temple LLP a growing insurance defence litigation firm is currently recruiting for an Intermediate Legal Assistant. Roles and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:


  • Independent work skills
  • Taking initiative
  • Managing a large practice
  • Multi tasking
  • Must be extremely organized
  • Opening files
  • Calendar management – scheduling calls, meetings, hearings, deadlines, limitation periods, etc
  • Compiling and assembling briefs – including bookmarking , linking numbering pages
  • Filling – Caselines, JSO portal, SCM (previously EATS) LAT system
  • Dictations
  • Cut cheques
  • Mailing
  • Filing emails and labelling files in file management system
  • Scanning incoming correspondence
  • Daily emails with to-do list and deadlines
  • Sending approved reports and updates to clients
  • Assigning updates, submissions and pleadings to associates
  • Following up with associates, clerks and assistants for assignments
  • Drafting updates to clients and putting together everything outstanding on files to assist with client updates
  • Ensure client emails are responded to
  • Following up with counsel re outstanding replies/ productions/ information
  • Maintain list of files and status of files
  • Billing – review accounts due for billing, confirm ready to bill and sending accounts to client
  • Prepare budgets and monitor need for update budgets 
  • Docket edits for accounts
  • Keep track of deductibles – their collection, application to accounts and when they are running low


  • Software: Acumin, iManage, Primafact, Webex, MS Office



The successful candidate should possess the following: a Legal Assistant Certificate, strong knowledge of legal procedures and forms, is well organized and able to manage multiple assignments; have the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, have strong written and oral communication skills and work effectively in a team environment. Preferred experience in insurance defence
