Who we are
Skjodt-Barrett is a world-class manufacturer of food solutions and custom ingredients for North America's most beloved and trusted brands. We take pride in working closely with our customers to understand their unique needs and create innovative, individualized solutions that deliver joy to their customers.
A family-founded company started over 35 years ago, we are backed by the investment company Axel Johnson Inc (AJI). With their investment and support, we are well-positioned to foster growth and explore new opportunities.
Our customers, blue-chip international brands and mid-sized producers alike, are why we exist. Our teams of innovators, communicators, and managers are the people who meet their needs, build trust, and exceed their expectations.
Who we need
Reporting to the Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) Manager, Material Management for North America (NA), we are looking for a Materials Planner. You will be responsible for planning the procurement and delivery of raw materials (such as dairy, proteins, flavours, fruits, and vegetables) and packaging materials to meet production schedules. You will be critical in ensuring smooth and efficient production, preventing shortages or excess inventory. You will collaborate with five other material planners and three demand and production planners, and work closely with sales and customer teams to coordinate material flow and provide real-time updates on any issues that may impact production.
This is a hybrid role working 2+ days per week onsite at our facility in Brampton, Ontario.
Who you are
You may have experience in Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) or the food industry and want to join a growing industry leader. Alternatively, you may be a Materials Planner from another sector, eager to transition into the dynamic and evolving ingredients and food industry. In either case, you're ready to apply your expertise in Management Requirements Planning and your ability to interpret ERP-generated Planned Orders in a scaling organization where you can advance your career.
What's in it for you
Impact. You want a high visibility, high-impact role at an organization with an international presence and a growing market share. You want to expand your knowledge of the ingredient and food production industry, collaborating within and across teams and borders. You want to gain insights into the supply chain process for procuring, testing, and approving substitute ingredients that meet customer needs, budgets, and timelines.
Career development. At Skjodt-Barrett, we value the drive to bring ideas to life and the resilience to be accountable for your actions. We have a proven history of supporting our people’s professional development and career growth. Your career path could include increasing your accountabilities in Operations Planning or moving into another area, such as Procurement, Customer Account Management or Supply Chain.
How you will make an impact:
- Continuously learn and respond. You will develop and maintain an in-depth understanding of all material requirements, including how sales orders and changing customer needs impact inventory and past and current product availability issues.
- Be strategic. You will support the execution of the S&OP demand plan and production schedule through accurate and efficient inbound materials planning (long/mid/short term range). You will help execute material management strategies for existing, new, and phase-out items, effectively minimizing shortages and obsolescence of ingredients.
- Oversee and manage inventory levels. Based on production planning, you will order and maintain materials in adequate amounts for timely delivery. You will manage costs and day-on-hand (DOH) availability for all materials within your assigned purchasing portfolio. You will communicate inventory delays to Production Planning and work in consultation to expedite or de-expedit orders, coordinate customer action plans, and ramp strategies up or down.
- Forecast. You will coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, including Supply Chain, to improve forecast accuracy, understand forecast drivers, ensuring we are meeting/exceeding targets. You will work with Production Planning to achieve or exceed targeted customer service levels.
What you bring to the role:
- The experience. You have functional supply chain experience in Material Requirements Planning (MRP), purchasing, and logistics. You may have or be in the process of completing your Certified Supply Chain Management Professionals (cSCMP) or Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) qualifications.
- The technical skills. You are highly proficient with MS Office and ERP systems like Microsoft Dynamics. You can perform fairly complex mathematical calculations.
- The drive. You are curious, with a growth mindset. You have excellent problem-solving skills. You can balance competing demands and shift priorities in response to changing customer needs and supply chain parameters. You are adept at resolving conflicts and managing stakeholder relationships, ensuring effective collaboration and addressing issues proactively.
- The interpersonal skills. You have professional verbal and written communication skills. You are a strong collaborator who can work cross-functionally with internal and external stakeholders. You genuinely appreciate diverse experiences and backgrounds and are interested in understanding others, hearing their perspectives, and addressing their concerns.
- The flexibility. You are willing and able to travel in Canada or the USA 2-3 times a year.

Benefits and perks we offer include comprehensive health, dental, paramedical and long term disability.
With paid vacation time starting at 15 days per year, paid sick time, and more, we want to ensure our employees feel supported and appreciated.
Apply now.
At Skjodt-Barrett, we aim for diversity, equality, accessibility and inclusion in all of our operations and interactions. We welcome and appreciate candidates with a range of backgrounds and experiences. If you have 70% of the qualifications we are looking for and want to play an integral role in delivering innovative food product solutions, apply to express your interest.
What you can expect from our interview process:
- A virtual interview with a Talent Advisor discussing your interest in the role and the company.
- A virtual interview with the S&OP Manager, Materials Management NA, the S&OP Manager, Demand and Production Planning NA, and a member of our Human Resources team. You will discuss how your experience in materials planning aligns with the needs of the cross-functional team.
- An onsite plant tour and a final interview with the Acting Director of Procurement/Acting VP of Customer Supply Chain to learn more about our production processes and the organization. This will be a chance to see the plant setup, understand the working environment, and ask questions.
