Job Summary

The Senior Production Planner is responsible for ensuring best practices in demand planning, inventory planning, production planning, and supply planning for multiple complex programs/products. This position will work closely with the Master Scheduler, Purchasing, and Logistics. The Production Planner shall ensure that production schedules are created and completed on time and within budget. They will drive Continuous Improvements and provide guidance to other planners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drives and contributes to continuous improvement by suggesting and/or implementing improvements to safety, costs, reduction in frustrations, etc.
  • Prepare daily and weekly production schedules.
  • Determines production resource needs.
  • Issue all production orders per planned orders and production schedule.
  • Closes and reconciles production/work orders.
  • Reports and drives solutions on material availability issues.
  • Works with the Procurement specialist to solve any material shortages.
  • Participates with material requirement planning improvements/implementation team.
  • Drives, monitors, and statuses production progress (Work In Progress) filling in any shortages.
  • Ensures that any unused material is returned to stock.
  • Prepares and maintains progress and other reports.
  • Creates, maintains, and ensures execution of the Production Schedule.
  • Reviews long-term forecasts to identify and mitigate possible capacity/material issues and recommends appropriate action.
  • Works with cross-functional teams to coordinate operations and activities within and between departments.
  • Reviews demand and supply to understand constraints/bottleneck and proposes alternative capacity or areas needing capacity improvement to meet demand.
  • Participates in business planning meetings to plan activities in future time periods.
  • Recommends stock to support a pull system for products and to reduce lead-times.
  • Performs ongoing analysis of weekly, monthly, and future capacity to optimize product-level loading and achieve manufacturing continuity during low and medium-volume months.
  • Reads and analyzes charts, production orders, production schedules, and other records/reports to determine production requirements and evaluate current production estimates and outputs.
  • Provides functional guidance to other planners.
  • Administers physical count activities with Material Stores Operators and reconciles inventory discrepancy.
  • Performs and justifies Inventory Adjustments.

Requirements

  • Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing, lead business discussions, and train others.
  • Able to build and maintain lasting relationships with other departments.
  • Ability to effectively facilitate cross-functional team meetings in problem-solving activities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office productivity suite.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills utilizing data and reports.
  • Able to find new methods and principles and ability to incorporate them into existing practices as needed.
  • High degree of resourcefulness, flexibility, and adaptability.
  • Meticulous records maintenance skills.

Education and Experience

  • 10+ years' of experience in manufacturing is an asset.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business or Supply Chain Management is an asset.
  • 10+ years' experience as a Production Planner is an asset.
  • Advanced knowledge of ERP systems related to materials, scheduling, MRP, MPS, BOM operations/processes.
  • Extensive knowledge of MPS/MRP, Demand Flow, JIT, Forecasting, Inventory Planning, and Kanban, would be preferred.
  • Hands-on experience of designing/implementing PULL SYSTEMS to control shop floor work center activities and hands-on knowledge/experience of working with Lean Manufacturing techniques.

Security Clearance

Successful candidates must obtain and hold security clearance at the reliability status level, and pass security assessment for the Controlled Goods Program (CGP) and ITAR.
