Nature of the Work


The position of psychologist encompasses, in particular, responsibility for prevention and screening activities, providing assistance and guidance to students experiencing or likely to experience social maladjustments or learning difficulties, evaluating the psychological and mental functioning and determining an individualized education plan in order to foster psychological health and restore mental health of students in interaction with their environment and support them in their educational path and in their personal and social development.


Tasks and responsibilities


• Assesses students via classroom observation, interviews, testing, portfolio assessment, etc., conducts psychoeducational evaluations of students who are being considered for special education services and/or for whom a specific intervention/behaviour program may be advisable and analyzes results of such evaluations with a view to formulate appropriate recommendations.


• Provides individual and group counselling, where possible, to students who present problems of a social and/or emotional nature, as well as provide crisis intervention, where possible, to pupils who are experiencing a crisis in their lives and require such supportive intervention.


• Follows-up where possible, on referred student’s progress via classroom observations, interviews, evaluations, and consultations with other individuals (e.g. teachers and parents).


• Provides input, where applicable, with respect to the formulation of objectives, strategies etc. as part of the Individualized Education Plan process, recommends intervention techniques within the school milieu (e.g. classroom management, remedial programs, etc.), meets with parents for the purpose of discussing their child and enlist their cooperation and input in the educational process, as well as assists in promoting the integration of special needs students within the regular classroom where feasible.


• Communicates with other school boards, hospitals, clinics, CIUSSS, etc. for the purpose of sharing information regarding certain students as well as investigates external resources and provides information to in-school personnel, parents and other professionals.


Nature de la fonction


L’emploi de psychologue comporte plus spécifiquement des fonctions de prévention, de dépistage, d’aide et d’accompagnement des élèves qui présentent ou qui sont susceptibles de présenter des difficultés d’adaptation ou d’apprentissage, d’évaluation du fonctionnement psychologique et mental ainsi que de détermination d’un plan d’intervention dans le but de favoriser la santé psychologique et de rétablir la santé mentale des élèves en interaction avec leur environnement et de les soutenir dans leur cheminement scolaire et leur épanouissement personnel et social.


Requirements and Qualifications


• Member of the Ordre des psychologues du Québec or in the process of applying for membership

• Excellent language skills both orally and written

• Experience as a Psychologist in the Youth Sector, preferably in the field of education

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills as the candidate must maintain close contact with outside organizations, administrative staff, multidisciplinary team, teachers and parents

• High level of empathy, care and sensitivity to the needs of the students


Tâches et responsabilités


• Évalue les élèves par le biais d’observations en classe, d’entrevues, de tests, d’évaluations de portefeuille, etc., effectue les évaluations psychoéducationnelles des élèves qui sont considérés pour services d’adaptation scolaire et pour qui un programme spécifique d’intervention/de comportement serait à conseiller et analyse les résultats de ces évaluations en vue de formuler les recommandations appropriées.


• Offre des services d’orientation, individuels ou de groupe, le cas échéant, aux élèves qui présentent des problèmes d’ordre social et/ou émotif, de plus, offre des services d’intervention en cas de crise, le cas échéant, aux élèves qui passent par des périodes de crise et qui ont besoin d’une telle intervention.


• Assure le suivi, le cas échéant, du progrès des élèves dont le cas lui a été soumis par le biais d’observations en classe, d’entrevues, d’évaluation et de consultation avec d’autres personnes (ex : personnel enseignant, parents).


• Participe, le cas échéant, à l’élaboration de stratégies, d’objectifs, etc. dans le cadre du processus du Programme d'enseignement personnalisé, recommande des techniques d’intervention au sein du milieu de l’école (ex : stratégies de gestion de classe, programmes de rattrapage, etc.), rencontre les parents dans le but de discuter du cas de leur enfant ainsi que pour obtenir leur collaboration et assurer leur participation au processus éducatif, de plus, encourage l’intégration des élèves aux besoins particuliers dans le cadre de la classe régulière, si possible.


• Communique avec les autres commissions scolaires, hôpitaux, cliniques, CIUSSS, etc. dans le but de partager les informations relatives à certains élèves ainsi que découvrir d’autres ressources externes disponibles et donne de l’information au personnel de l’école, aux parents et autres professionnels.


Exigences et Qualifications


  • Membre de l’Ordre des psychologues du Québec ou engagé au processus de demande d’adhésion
  • Excellence compétences Linguistiques, à l’oral et à l’écrit
  • Expérience en tant que psychologue auprès des jeunes, de préférence dans le domaine de l'éducation
  • Excellentes habiletés de communication et de relations interpersonnelles, afin de maintenir un lien étroit avec d’autres organisations externes, le personnel administratif, l’équipe multidisciplinaire, les enseignants et les parents
  • Grande empathie, attention et sensibilité aux besoins des élèves
