Description:

  • The Montréal West Island IUHSSC is seeking a psychologist to join its psychiatric outpatient clinic team at St. Mary's Hospital Center (SMHC) for a permanent fulltime position.
  • The psychiatric outpatient clinic, located within the hospital, is an ambulatory service providing specialized mental health and addiction care to adults living in the community. To receive services, clients must be followed by a psychiatrist at the clinic. Referrals come from family physicians, emergency rooms, hospitalization units, etc. The multidisciplinary team at the outpatient clinic is composed of psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, occupational therapists and psychologists. The clinic offers pharmacological treatments as well as recognized and evidencebased nondrug therapeutic interventions.

The care and services offered include:

  • Psychoeducational workshops; prevention and symptom management
  • Referrals to more specialized services

Driven by a positive vision of the person (valuing his or her strengths, skills and resources rather than his or her illness and difficulties), your role as a psychologist will invite you to:

  • Assess the client's psychological state and functioning using structured individual interviews and standardized psychometric instruments;
  • Determine and prioritize the person's rehabilitation and maintenance objectives;
  • Design, based on the identified objectives and priorities, the steps of a psychological intervention plan;
  • Define the nature of the interventions and treatments to be drawn from the interdisciplinary care and service offer;
  • Propose the intervention plan to the person, discuss it and adapt it for a concerted strategy;
  • Write an intervention plan that is consistent with the interdisciplinary intervention plan;
  • Provide individual and group therapy using scientifically supported approaches and methods (e.g. 2nd and 3rd wave behavioural therapies such as mindfulnessbased cognitive therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy);
  • Evaluate the results and effectiveness of the intervention plan by comparing the client's psychological state and functioning with the measures taken at the beginning of the intervention;
  • Conduct assessments in order to consolidate gains, revise the intervention plan or close an episode of services;
  • Prepare a psychological followup plan to ensure continuity after the end of the service episode;
  • Act as a resource person in your field of expertise for your colleagues on the interdisciplinary team;
  • Participate in the supervision of psychology trainees and the orientation of new staff;
  • Participate in the development and continuous improvement of the care and service offer;
  • Collaborate in the design of new practices, activities, materials and intervention tools;
  • Stay on top of the development of knowledge in your field of expertise and ensure the maintenance and development of your skills.
