Civil Litigation Lawyer

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage a diverse caseload of litigation files from start to finish.
  • Conduct comprehensive legal research, and draft pleadings, motions, and other essential legal documents.
  • Represent clients effectively in court, including handling discoveries, mediations, pre-trials, and trials.
  • Provide strategic and timely legal advice to clients, ensuring their best interests are represented.
  • Develop and nurture strong client relationships through regular communication and updates.
  • Collaborate with senior lawyers and team members on complex cases, contributing to strategic planning and business development.
  • Stay informed about legal developments and changes in relevant laws and regulations.


Requirements:

  • At least 5 years of experience in civil litigation, with a focus on personal injury or insurance defense.
  • A member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
  • Proven experience with client management, discoveries, mediations, pre-trials, and trials.
  • Superior communication and English writing skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously while also thriving in a collaborative team environment.
  • A proactive, “can do anything” attitude and the ability to handle high-pressure situations.


Assets:

  1. Significant experience in personal injury or insurance defense litigation is highly desirable.
  2. Knowledge of accident benefits and injury tort claims.
  3. Excellent negotiation skills and experience working with insurance adjusters and defense lawyers.
  4. Proficiency in French or other languages is considered a valuable asset.
  5. A demonstrated ability to manage and grow an independent practice is a plus.
