Responsibilities

Manage a team of studio and service technicians. Chair regular meetings with the studio and service staff to discuss issues within the unit. Work closely with and communicate regularly with the Academic Dean, Division Chairs and Directors to ensure studio and technical facilities adequately support curricular needs. Consult widely and build relationships with faculty, technicians, students, and management to forge consensus in response to changing needs of the University. Act as a resource for students, staff, and faculty on studio and service issues, equipment, and practices. Oversee the studio and service technicians including scheduling of work hours, planning and development, regular feedback and support, and absence management. Arrange orientation and training for new staff as necessary.

Develop and implement, in consultation with faculty and staff, policies and procedures to provide students with the best possible access to studios and technical facilities, within the context of available resources.

Work with the OHS Advisor on issues of studio maintenance and enforcement of University policies regarding health, safety and security.

Maintain detailed records for the Studio Services division with respect to purchasing, planning, inventory, staffing, internal and external communications, equipment circulation, and repair histories.

Manage relevant studio budgets, monitor expenditures and oversee payment of invoices.

Consult with technicians on equipment servicing, repair, and maintenance, and in determining repair options.

Performs employee performance reviews as outlined in the FUNSCAD Unit II Collective Agreement.

Qualifications

Educational requirements include a Bachelors degree combined with a minimum of five years related experience in management and operation of a teaching/technical space and staff. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

The successful candidate will have a thorough understanding of WHMIS and heath and safety issues relating to the operation of studio spaces and demonstrated interpersonal, organizational, and time-management skills. Past experience managing a team of professionals, including experience with performance management, attendance management, scheduling and arranging work and managing a divisional budget is required. Demonstrated administrative skills, including experience with Excel spreadsheets to manage budgets and inventory, and experience with Microsoft Word and Outlook is required.
