POSITION SUMMARY:

This is a 12 to 18 month contract-Reporting to the QA Supervisor, the PSQA Coordinator will play a key role in supporting and executing the product safety and quality vision of Darling International Canada Inc. The role will provide product safety and quality expertise to site leadership. Primarily the role will ensure the effective implementation, reassessment and maintenance of site level HACCP plans, prerequisite programs and laboratory manuals.


POSITION TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Executes the implementation, verification, reassessment, maintenance and storage of site level HACCP plans, prerequisite programs, and supporting documentation
  • Monitors and verifies product safety programs and facility practices, then takes appropriate action to ensure the integrity of the HACCP system
  • Primary liaison with CFIA inspectors, third party auditors, and customers
  • Assists with internal audits conducted by Corporate PSQA team annually
  • Development, maintenance & deliverance of GMP and Technical training for operations, maintenance and logistics personnel on HACCP program requirements, including modifications and updates, for hourly and salary employees
  • Ensures timely documentation, follow-through and completion of root cause analysis, and corrective/preventive actions for internal audits, external audits, non-conformances, and complaints
  • Ensures supplier non-conformity responses are issued, tracked, trended, managed and communicated
  • Identifies site trends related to product safety (foreign material, complaints, non-conformances, etc.) as well as opportunities for continuous improvement initiatives
  • Manage monthly HACCP / Quality meetings with the site and corporate level teams, to communicate program updates, non-compliant situations, and KPI's
  • Ensures all matters pertaining to product safety and quality are promptly reported to the corporate PSQA Team
  • Manages site licences and permits
  • Collect, verify, and archive records, supplier certification, and other documentation in a timely, organized manner as required
  • Other duties as assigned

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Willing to work in noisy environments of varying temperature.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, occasional outside work during all seasons and weather, and at working heights
  • Screen time

  • Alternating long periods of walking, standing for stretches of time (example, completing site inspections, or observing processes

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • University or college degree in chemistry, microbiology, science, agriculture management and/or related field
  • 1-3+ years' experience in a Quality Assurance, Product Safety and/or Regulatory field preferred with emphasis on program maintenance
  • Experience working in the food or agriculture processing industry an asset
  • Understanding of HACCP and its application to manufacturing
  • Experience working in food or agriculture processing industry is an asset
  • Strong leadership capabilities and creative problem-solving skill
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Superb organizational skills
  • Strong analytical abilities
  • Able to work in a fast paced, changing environment with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work effectively as a team, with strong relationship building skills
  • Strong computer, organization, analytical, project management and planning skills
  • Willing to work in noisy environments of varying temperature.

  • Core hours are day shift, but must be flexible to work extended or varying shifts to meet business needs
