Overview

Hexagon's Autonomy & Positioning division, is looking for a Senior Systems Engineer to join our high-tech engineering and manufacturing company that is committed to customer service excellence and continuous improvement. You are someone with proven technical leadership, collaboration and product development skills who thrives on seeing exciting projects through to completion.

In this role, you will be responsible for leading the product development, along side project managers, for new positioning capabilities for Hexagon's Aerospace and Defense customers. You will be involved in all stages of the product development cycle and will provide Systems Engineering expertise through activities such as requirements management, system architectural design, systems integration, and the assessment of system verification compliance. This role requires collaboration with a cross-functional product development team to identify and mitigate risk, and to ensure that the design meets its functional, quality, schedule, and cost targets.

The Location:  Hexagon is a global company with locations around the world. This position is based in Calgary, AB, and works closely with teams located in the UK, California and Texas. 

Responsibilities

As part of the Aerospace & Defense team, the  Senior Systems Engineer  will:

Lead the technical aspects of projects in collaboration with the Chief Engineer, Project Manager, and a team of subject matter experts Evaluate customer requirements and operational use cases to define and decompose system requirements to lower-level design requirements Develop system architectural designs, including conceptual, behavioral and structural views, critical component selection, interface descriptions, failure modes and effects analyses Assess cross-domain dependencies Continuous evaluation of technical risk within the project and proactively work with the team to mitigate risk Systems integration planning and coordination Ensure verification compliance of the design with the system requirements, standards and specifications while balancing competing business requirements such as cost and time to market Complete system and product analyses for reliability, maintainability, testability, usability, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, affordability, safety, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance and other specialties Contribute to continuous improvement and application of Systems Engineering processes, best practices, and tools

Qualifications

Must-Have:

B.Sc. in Engineering or equivalent 7+ years experience in a high technology, product development environment 2+ years in a Systems Engineering related role Proven technical leadership experience demonstrated by successfully leading complex products to market Proven understanding and execution of traditional systems engineering principles Experience in developing and managing verifiable requirements for systems, hardware, and software Strong written and verbal communication skills Must be able to achieve Canadian Controlled Goods security status

Strong collaboration, facilitation and interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team Strong communication, negotiation, and technical leadership skills Strong system architectural design and analysis skills Able to quickly learn about new technologies Analytical problem-solving skills with systems thinking and attention to detail Knowledge of the product development life cycle and Systems Engineering V-model Technical research abilities with the aptitude for sharing of information and expertise

Nice-to-Have:

Expertise with one or more requirements management tools, such as Polarion or DOORS Experience in robust product design for harsh conditions, such as military, marine, aerospace, agricultural, and automotive environments Familiar with Functional Safety standards such as ISO 26262, DO-178, and DO-254 Familiar with ASPICE process reference model Practical application of reliability engineering principles, including FMEA, FTA, MTBF, and RCA Familiar with GNSS receiver system architecture Experience working with Aerospace or Defense system integrators Experience with Model Based System Engineering (MBSE)
