The Opportunity

Wolf Midstream is looking for a Senior System Development Engineer. This position is part of our Pipeline Team and will be responsible for developing strategies to optimize the bottom line of midstream infrastructure assets through collaboration with multi-disciplined teams. In this role you will report to the Director, Engineering and will work closely with the Commercial Development and Shipper Services teams to provide technical and economic analysis by evaluating, recommending, and implementing strategies aligned with system development targets. This position will be based out of Calgary, Alberta. Travel to various pipeline sites (Fort Saskatchewan and Conklin) on occasion to field verify solutions will be required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with the Commercial & Shipper Services teams to scope potential optimization and development projects, enhancement or renewing of existing assets, or addition of new infrastructure
  • Evaluate the technical feasibility of optimization projects or new infrastructure projects with the use of hydraulic studies, pump curves, system curves and midstream infrastructure equipment
  • Maintain and manage the commercial system planning model
  • Provide support to the Commercial team in conducting scenario evaluation with economic evaluations and analysis
  • Work with a multi-disciplined team ( Operations Engineering, Operations, Maintenance and Shipper Services) to identify, evaluate, and develop opportunities with technical operational data
  • Prepare technical evaluations and present decision support packages including risk assessment, economic analysis (cost benefit, incremental, etc), alternative analysis, strategic rationale, and recommendation
  • Develop Class 3 to 5 estimates, project schedules, and project risk registers
  • Develop pre-FEED (Front End Engineering Design) scope documentation
  • Manage and support external Engineering companies in the development of a FEED studies
  • Obtain internal funding approval for preliminary project deliverables and final project sanctioning to then be turned over to a Project Manager for execution
  • Apply enhanced engineering solutions by identifying improvement opportunities through benchmarking and researching industry best practices and emerging trends

Qualifications and Experience

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (preferably mechanical, chemical, or petroleum engineering). Additional designations and education an asset

Experience:

  • 10 - 15 years of energy industry experience with relevant experience in midstream and energy infrastructure; E&P experience beneficial
  • Experience in system planning and developing FEED studies
  • Proficiency in relevant software tools and technologies for engineering design, pipeline hydraulics, data analysis, and project management.
  • Knowledge of regulatory frameworks, industry standards, and best practices in the midstream sector.
  • Commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, and ethical business practices.

Skills:

  • Ability to collaborate and work with multi-disciplined teams in a fast-paced environment including both internal/external stakeholders
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a willingness to work with teams providing mentorship, support and guidance
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills coupled with a desire to learn, evolve, and find mutually beneficial outcomes for all stakeholders
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to perform economic evaluations and financial modeling.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective stakeholder engagement and project management.
  • Proficiency in relevant software tools and technologies for engineering design, pipeline hydraulics, data analysis, and project management.
